damn. I swear that dog would've chewed the bricks off the house if he got bored enough.

I have a 14y/o who had a pretty bad experience during Katrina. Ever since then, he's been absolutely mortified of bad weather. When I first started college, my dad was helping me move some stuff from Covington to BR. We were gone for three hours and a storm blew up in Covington. We got home and he had chewed the running board of my dad's truck to pieces, chewed the side view mirror clean off, and chewed off both door handles. There were little pieces of plastic and blood everywhere and he was just laying on the floor panting with a bloody mouth like "WTF YOU GUYS BEEN?"

When we order stuff online to be delivered, we have to use my parent's address now. He chewed some boots my wife ordered that the dumbarse UPS guy left on the porch...let's just say she explained to me that bullets are cheaper than euthanization lol.

So recently, I forgot about that and ordered a new bat online for the 9 year old, and just used our address. My wife told me I was nuts, but I figured, hell, it's a BASEBALL BAT. Anyway, it was going to come when we were out of town for Spring Break, so I had my dad come check every day. He calls me one morning and says it came, and I'll need to get some of that replacement grip tape lol. Damn dog chewed the box to pieces enough to where he got the bat and chewed the grip off of it.

If I ever get another puppy, I'll be taking two from the litter. Having a pair that can play with each other can eliminate some of the boredom related stuff.

can not agree more. i have always owned "one" dog. for 28 years of my life i only had one dog at a time. Then i had my female lab, i have her in a fenced in back yard. And started realizing every day i got home she would just be waiting in the corner for me with her duck, every morning i leave sitting in the corner staring at me with her duck, if i walk by the door staring at me with her duck.. so i said im getting her a companion! she was 2yrs old at the time. I got a 6 month old male, brought him home and she hated him! like literally would have killed him if i didnt separate her. She had never been around another dog. Well over the next few weeks i slowly introduced them to each other then eventually moved him in with her lol. Now they are attached at the hip! They stay with each other, play and sleep together. Extremely happy now, and my female calmed down ALOT! From now on i will always have 2

Crate training does wonders for someone with a career that doesn't allow them to be with their dog constantly. You just have to give the dog a lot of attention when you're home. My dog is in the crate from 8-5 and gets taken out for lunch most days. No problems. Some days I can't make it home for lunch and that's not an issue. But when they are a puppy, more than 4 hours is tough on the bladder. She's just over a year now and hasn't chewed a single thing in the house.

From experience, if you have a large enough kennel in the back yard, getting 2 pups means only half the puppy problems, as far as destructing things around the house. They have each other to keep themselves entertained. I have 2 german shorthaired pointers(just as energetic as a lab) from the same litter, and it seemed they that instead of chewing on things, or digging holes in the yard, they would play with each other. Also it seemed easier to house train them, they learned from each other.

I just see way too many people get hunting dogs/labs and end up with shithead dogs because they weren't around enough whenever the dogs were pups. It ends up sucking for the owner and the dog.
Sound advice for responsible ownership.
