You might be right. Stadiums and crowd control since then has greatly improved.

Incredible story

Just got done watching. Very well done. Would have liked to hear something from the players' perspective.

Yeah me too. Stephen Nicol briefly talked about it today on ESPN FC but didn't really go into detail. I also would've liked to hear from the Nottingham Forrest perspective and what their fans may have been wondering while this was happening.

Watching it right now. Just so hard to believe the whole thing.

The coverup was actually worse than the fire.

If you notice real closely, there are some dead supporters with their fingers clenched against the front of the gates. Extremely sad.
re: ESPN 30 for 30 "Hillsborough" in game threadPosted by Keys Open Doors on 4/16/14 at 12:09 am to ornagestorm
yeah, it was far worse. First telling the lie that Liverpool fans broke down the entrance to one part of the stadium, when it was actually voluntarily opened at the recommendation of officials and especially the falsifying of sworn statements by the police officers.
One thing I wish they could clarify is whether that one officer they interviewed knew his statement had been falsified all these years or if he learned it only through the book and the 2011 commission.
It's an interesting topic but I thought two hours was too long. Also, I know the film was done for Liverpool supporters, but it was very short on providing context for 1980s stadium issues.

Yeah it was implied that he found out in the commissions report. I'd like to know also.

I suppose if he didn't read a dense book written by the guy who wrote the 2011 report there was really no other way he would find out since online journalism was very different in the late 90s.

I started watching it last night and couldn't believe what I was seeing. I felt claustrophobic in my recliner! The whole stadium just felt eerie to me even before they started showing the stands filling up. How can you just pass that off as "drunken Liverpool fans rushing the gate"? That’s fricking ridiculous.
Someone earlier mentioned getting the Not-Forest perspective and i think that would have been nice. Also, wasn't one of the deceased Stevie G’s 10 year cousin? God i couldn't imagine losing my son to something like that…I’ll finish it tonight, hopefully. Justice for the 96!

THE, THE, THEEE best 30 for 30 to date. This was an awesome show and glad that it's finally getting the attention it's deserved world-wide. Today, I'm a Liverpool fan.
Looks like they're going to win the Premier League this year as well!!

Would be a nightmare to go through. Dying or even barely getting out. The footage of the gates outside was crazy. Logistical nightmare. The chief majorly f'ed up.

I promise to start nothing in this thread just a quick question.
While Duckenfield's actions after the fact were deplorable does he really deserve blame for trying to open the gate?
All the information he was getting outside from his frantic officers was that if he didn't do something people were going to start dying outside. It seems he was getting a lot of heat for not taking any action but wouldn't not trying something (opening the gate) just have been another example of him doing nothing?
Again, please don't take this as any kind of flame just an honest question. What other course of action could have been taken at that point?

It wasn't that really. It was lying and saying Liverpool fans charged the gates. They should have also had police directing people once they opened exit gates.

Yea I understand everything that happened after the fact and how messed up it was.
I'm just talking about in that moment, what other options were there?

I, like him, don't know enough about the facility and crowd control to answer that question... I believe he probably acted with the best intentions and if it ended there, this may have "ended" a long time ago...
It's the cover up and deflection of blame that his kept this crusade going for truth (we have) and now justice..
That was actually new news to me, that the chief of that station (veteran with football crowd control) was removed in light of that awful prank... and that Duckenfield was put in place just a few weeks before... perfect storm was brewing
