re: Braves fans: Would getting a leadoff hitter help this team tremendously?

I always wanted badly for us to bring Dexter Fowler back home. Can you imagine?
Fowler
Heyward/Johnson
Freeman
Upton
Johnson/Heyward
Gattis/C
Uggla
Simmons
Holy... frick. Now there's a lineup worth bouncing Heyward from the leadoff spot.

Yeah Fowler was at .378 OBP out of the leadoff spot in 85 games. Damn strong.

You said literally this exact same thing to me the other day.
In his career, Heyward has 199 PA in the leadoff spot over 44 games (1 game and 4 PA in 2011). He has a career slash line of .273/.372/.477. That's an OPS of .849, which is pretty damn good for any spot in the order. There's currently no better option on this team when you combine that with his speed and baserunning ability. There is also no likely trade option (at least that has been mentioned so far) who would be better than that.
The one stat that keeps being brought up is how terrible he's been this year. First of all, he's walking a lot so his OBP is still over .300 this year. Also, he's been incredibly unlucky. Just in the last few days, he's drilled some balls that have been caught. His BABIP this season is .171, which you would expect to rise and his BA and OBP would rise with it. Another interesting stat is that during his time in the leadoff position, he's seen 4.1 pitches per PA. I have nothing to compare that to, but it sounds like a pretty decent number.
So to sum up, he has a high OBP over his career, sees a lot of pitches, and has speed. Those all sound like ideal qualities in any position in the lineup, especially leadoff.

The Braves should've kicked the tires on Emilio Bonafacio.

I've got to agree, Fredi is the best manager in the game and if he thinks JHey needs to bat leadoff then I'm on board

I don't think Fredi is a good manager but that doesn't mean batting Heyward is a bad decision.

You wear your name very well.

Once again I apologize, my temper sometimes gets the best of me and I type things I don't mean...how could I possibly know if you're an idiot or not? You could have left your computer on and your 10 year old nephew is posting under your name or something.

Funny, I was wondering if you had left your computer logged in on accident when you said a leadoff should have a .380 OBP.

By his own logic, Freddie Freeman is the only player on this team fit to bat leadoff.

Braves are out of money..deal with it. We will be fine with what we have.

I just got off the phone with my uncle, who works in the Braves FO, and he said to make sure I have a good pair of swim trunks by the end of July because a big splash is going to be made...take it FWIW

Meh, the sample size of my supposed "good" posting abilities is clearly too small.
