People keep bringing up Manziel and Winston when talking about Harris. They fail to bring up the fact they were redshirt freshmen, not true freshmen.

there are a lot of people that think a true freshman can't succeed. I believe in this kid. I believe in Cam Cameron.

LSU's offense is going to be young but FAST. I think they'll surprise some folks next year.

when our offense is good this season, it's going to be like last years. when it's bad, i'm afraid it's going to be like the 2010 O.

if we can get 2012 production or better we are in very good shape

keep in mind that 2 or 3 of his best receivers are not even on campus yet.
So Frosh QB . . . AND keep in mind he'll be throwing to young receivers too . . . in the SEC. There it is.

Regardless, and despite completion stats, he looked best of bunch in the Spring. Defense should be better this year to keep a bit of pressure off. But expectations should obviously be tempered.

And I said … we said … I said, ‘Are you strong?’ They said, ‘I’m strong if you strong.’ I said, ‘We strong, then.’”

Why doesnt Jennings, Harris and rettig train with Whitfield? Guys got a great record with QB's and we need all the QB help we can get.

History percentages proves that.

History percentages do not prove that a TF can't succeed, but it does suggest that it is unlikely. Still, it depends on what you consider succeeding. I think Harris as a TF could outperform Jennings so is that succeeding? possibly.

He also won't have that redshirt year like Murray did. Murray was a redshirt freshman that year one.

Damn! I for sure thought Murray was a true fresh. Usually guys who redshirt at QB, start 3 years at most. I should edit that.

Here. I found this article while looking for info on how true freshman QBs have fared recently when given the starting job. Maybe this will temper some of your expectations.

It is hard for me to believe that so many want us to start a true freshmen. It would be much better for the program to build depth at the position rather than just throw this kid to the wolves, and the backup having only started one non sec game.

Let the kid develop, and set him loose. Learn some patience.

Well, it didn't take the staff very long to bump Jennings up over some guys that had been here for a while last year. They didn't hesitate to put him in against Arkansas. There's no reason to believe they won't do it with Harris if he shows them the same type of stuff in practice but with a much better arm.

even jefferson got on the field in 08 before the hatch experiment ended.

it seems there isn't much seperating harris and jennings, so if the true frosh wins the battle, so be it. i do think he has more upside than AJ, but AJ has a leg up in the classroom/playbook.

still think jennings starts but harris will play a bunch early on.

Maybe so, but in the end, how did he perform in the Iowa game and the Spring game?

If Harris shows the same type of stuff, there's absolutely no reason to believe that he will be some exception to the rule, that 95% of the time, true freshmen will perform just like a true freshman.

I don't know why LSU fans think that Harris is some sort of superman kid that will just jump in and land all-conference/freshman all-american.

Because reading the rant, thats what most insinuate.

The expectations here are ridiculous and whenever they fall flat and most LSU fans feel like shite and want to blame the coach, look at yourself for putting too many expectations on Harris just for him to fall short.

Upside doesn't mean true freshman success.

I'm 100% in this boat...

...and I just don't understand how people think that Harris is going to just jump in and this offense is going to be successful as most LSU fans want/expect it to be. History says (read that link provided) that it just doesn't happen.

Harris HIMSELF even says that he has work to do and he just isn't there yet......while LSU fans seem to think he is and should unseat Jennings....

quote:

Brandon said to me, ‘Coach, I’ve never seen so many people excited about the worst game I’ve ever played,’” Cameron said at LSU’s pro day last week.

Harris told Cameron, “I was looking right when I should have been looking left. I was looking deep when I was supposed to be looking short.”

Exactly my problem.

The expectations on him in April already are ridiculous.
