I hate slow work days without any afternoon baseball.

If we switched to P over SP, wouldn't everyone just load up on RP and try to capture the ratios? With a minuscule 25 IP requirement, that would be easy to do. I prefer that everyone is forced to throw SPs.

ETA: The only way to make that switch is to remove the IP requirement and shift to more cumulative stats like Ks. But then we'd be encouraging streaming again.

Yeah, but even with SP spots you can rotate them in and out and probably get by with only 3 starts per week. Especially if you can snag a reliever or two who qualifies as a starter.

Of course, one bad outing by a reliever could tank your ratios.

Exactly. That's a high-wire act. I do not see what the desire of such a change would be (unless you do not have good SP).

There are really good relievers sitting on the waiver wire, because they aren't closers and we don't have lineup spots for them.

In that case the minimum IP would have to be increased. It hurts those that want to carry 4 closers or if you want to start a SP who is not SP eligible yet. I think its fine the way it is I was just wondering why there was only SP slots.

I dont share Shats opinion...there is no need to tinker with this.

Then add a category for holds and total bases and make it a 6 x 6. I still do not understand what creates the urge to switch. Moving to P over SP would marginalize pitching and allow those without good SPs to compete more. More socialism.

You know how I feel about this in a league that penalizes for blown saves.

I don't think anything needs to change.

That wouldn't be any more socialist than telling someone they can't start 4 CL. There is a happy medium and IMO 5 SP & 3 RP isn't it.

Your suggestion is fine if we move to cumulative stats and streaming. Are you comfortable with that? And y'all keep referring to closers (which are limited). In that scenario it would behoove owners to use any middle relievers. Are you comfortable with that?

Or 8 OF, or 4 1B, or maybe 3 Catchers?

I'm comfortable doing any number of things. I will change my strategy based on league settings, so it's not a big deal as long as it won't drastically alter the keeper landscape.

I just think its weird in a league that technically allows you to start 3 C, 3 1B, 3 2B, etc to limit an owner to only 3 RP when one single category is entirely correlated to the number of players you own at that position. In SBL, I can start 4 1B but only 3 RP.

This league may just need to die. It's like you frickers just wake up in the morning looking for something to bitch about.

I win this league one fricking time and it's decay is inevitable.

If this is really about Saves, then I agree with you. I do not like it as a category. So if you'd like to petition to have it removed, that's fine. But I do not think we should instantly increase the value of 70% of the overall pitching pool because some owners do not own enough of the 30% that currently provide value. If we went to a points league that gave owners a multitude of ways to accrue points I'd be fine with a generic P designation. But in a league that is primarily driven by ratios, under an IP cap, it would instantly give teams with weak SPs an avenue toward winning categories and devalue top-flight SPs.

I'm reacting to this stuff. I didn't come in here stirring the pot. This league has been around for awhile, but there still seems to be a weekly modification suggested. Redd, I'll let you handle the explanation side of things.
