Barr vs Stanford

Look what happened against a smashmouth football team which he will see lots of in the NFL. He was dominated by TEs and fullbacks. Once he gets locked on to he can't shed the blocks. He still looks lost in coverage and overruns plays too much. Barr is a tremendous athlete and will be a good player , but right now he's just a pass rusher. If he had a comparison out of recent drafts potential wise he'd be Mingo while Shazier is like Lavonte David

All you have to do to learn about Shazier is go to youtube and type in "Clemson Orange Bowl Highlights". You will literally see Clemson targeting and exploiting Shazier. College teams aren't supposed to scheme into your first round pick, they should scheme away from him. Clemson made him look like a blind cripple.

In nearly every clip you will see him catching blocks 4-5 yards downfield and making tackles at the safety level. You'll see him mis-stepping nearly every play and borderline abandoning all semblance of gap integrity. You'll also see him getting run over by Sammy Watkins a couple of times.

Athleticism wise he is up there with Barr. Scheme wise, techniques, intangibles, and every other category he's miles past Barr

Holy sports cliches Batman.

Also, If Shazier is miles ahead of Barr "scheme wise" then we should definitely take him. He can replace Rob Ryan and save Benson some cash.

I've officially read it all!

You never once watched David at Nebraska if you think they're similar.

Boom

Btw compare those testing numbers between the two. Apparently Shazier is more athletic as well

Lol.

You should work for the Raiders, measureables are the end-all, be-all right?

If you ask a group of Ohio State players if Shazier reminds them of David they'll laugh in your face and say they wish.

I'd guess you would find consensus on Barr to be Top 15. Shazier & Ford are projected more late 1st/early 2nd. If that is anywhere near correct Barr would likely be a must-pick selection at #27. It always depends on what the pool is of who ya have to choose from. The only lower ranked players I might imagine over Barr would be CBs Gilbert or Dennard, WR Evans maybe.

Some of these threads back my theory-

How ranking is determined:

NFL: Game Film 65% Combine & Pro Days 15% Personal Workout Interview 20%

Fans: What draft gurus say 60% Combine & Pro Days 30% Highlight Tapes 9% Game Film 1%

The draft is a risk versus reward process. decisions are made based upon need and upside potential. however the best player doesn't always meet his potential Remember Aaron Curry the safest pick in the draft

Athletically Shazier is a linebacker that can potentially play the past and the run. If all top Wr choices are gone you can't go wrong with either

Had a dream this guy was our pick before I really knew who he was. After watching him on film he seems nasty and relentless. Has the measurables and athleticism to be elite. Made the switch to olb in 2012 and since than has led his team in sacks,TFL, and FF each year. With time to develop he could potentially be great.

Although I prefer to go offense in the 1st round, I wouldn't mind us grabbing him as he would have nice value at the 27 pick.

I'll admit that I didn't watch much of Barr and I never thought he'd fall as far down as we pick so I haven't paid much attention to him.

Isn't Barr kind of like a Bruce Irvin? Or maybe a better Dion Jordan?

No offense, but are we talking about the same Bjoern Werner?
For whatever reason I had him and Ansah mixed up. My bad.

Well Ansah did pretty well for himself. Still not sold on Barr. I see the potential but I've been burned too many times getting excited by guys with potential.

I remember the last defensive player that fell that much that saints took was.....Cam Jordan. Projected top 12 at worst and fell to 24. I remember one analyst after the draft said it was "inexcusable and a shame" that he fell that far and the Saints got a steal. Very prophetic

I'd take Antny Barr all day at 27.

Oh I never said Shazier wasnt a great athlete. He is.

But, look at the difference in height and weight right now. Anthony Barr is 6'5 255lbs. Shazier is 6'1 237lbs. Barr is taller and heavier with just as much or more athleticism.

Barr is a better fit in the 3-4 OLB spot than Shazier is. Hes a better fit as a 4-3 run and hit OLB.

Barr also has a lot more experience getting after the QB. Shazier, not so much.

There is no discussion. Shazier isn't in the same ballpark.

This is a good comparison.

They'd probably have similar roles for Barr's first year, but then you're getting a guy with similar athleticism plus more height and length.

NFL GMs would laugh if they read this thread.
