Every story I've ever heard about a pro golfer (second or third hand) involves them being King Assface. Never heard a story that ends in so-and-so being a nice guy.

That being said, I really don't care. I'm not trying to be buddies with them, so why should it bother me?

We make entirely too much of the personalities of pro athletes. They get paid to win, not to charm.

I see very few players acting like that on the course. Sabbitini has done it, Sergio maybe a little bit, but I can't think of anyone else. He's just over the top with pretty much everything he does. The General Lee and the hovercraft are examples of that.

Is it really a story for someone to repeat if they see a player staying late to sign autographs or acting properly on the course?

I wish he would smile a little and not cry when he wins, but he's fine. There are a lot worse out there.

Most people are douches anyway so it's not that far-fetched of a statement to assume he is.

Considering the high volume of stories to the contrary, I would think so.

I am not sure if this qualifies as a "douche moment" but I did watch Bubba chew out a cameraman on Friday for trying to take some pics of him mid swing. He stopped midswing, yelled at the cameraman, tried to gather himself, and then decided he wanted the cameraman away from the hole entirely and told him to leave.

Awkward for everyone. Probably the cameraman's fault.

I don't see that as being a douche at all. The dude snaping photos while he is trying to concentrate on his swing is the douche. Props to Bubba for telling the douche to get the f out of there. People these days have no consideration.

Everyone liked him until he started winning. Apparently you can't be a winner and be likeable at the same time.

This is what's bad about the Internet. Everyone loved Bubba before he started winning now he's a huge douche because there cousins cousin heard that all his friends said he was a douche

Your examples are weak as hell. Ppl get upset and frustrated all the time but they don't have cameras following them around to film it and put it on YouTube.

FYI your last link made me like Bubba even more.

True story:

Bubba once asked a guy he was playing against if the dude could get his girlfriend, his sister, and and his mom out on the course with them so he could beat his arse in front of all the women that meant anything to him.

I know someone who has played a lot of Amateur golf for the better part of 20 years. He played with Bubba on multiple occasions in the early 2000s. I take his first hand experience over some tears and high fives on TV after winning the Masters.

Perhaps Im wrong but this was the first time I had seen something like this when a guy won. He has a bunch of other close friends on the tour.

Every time I hear these amateur stories come out of the woodwork it sounds more like jealousy and resentment than anything else.
