I'd assume it'd help. I hate everything about the actual experience(I'd rather spend my time surfing/running/swimming/ but don't mind watching on TV.

I couldn't disagree more. Having played competitive golf, I actually have experience with this. You have no clue.

Don't knock someone for their comprehension when you can't even use proper English...

weird stuff happens with us hackers. Like yesterday. I teed my ball up and told my partner "I'm hitting to the sun so watch my ball if I lose sight."
Him: "OK" I swung and saw the ball in a blur go straight for the center of the fairway but I lost sight in the sun almost immediately.
Me: "I lost it. Did you see it."
Him: (Laughing...yeah, I saw it." Me: "Well, where did it go?"
Him: (still laughing) "It's right next to your foot." I had teed the ball up to high and hit the tee out from under the ball into the sun. The ball didn't go anywhere.

sounds like you need to worry less about the rules and more about getting the ball off the tee box

Competitively yeah I can imagine most do play strict rules.
18 holes with a buddy, I would bet most dont.

I watch more now I've started playing, and after almost shot I just shake my head and wonder how the hell they do it

No. But it helps.

And hurts. When you hear the clubs they pull for the given yardages it pisses me off

If you watch in person I think playing is more essential. First pro I ever saw hit a ball was Billy Mayfair. Pudgy little dude recovering from recent chemo. He blasted the ball. Watching them all hit driver with the same equipment I use and achieve a ball trajectory I cannot fathom is always amazing. I then saw Couples and Daly hit later which was ridiculous.

No, it's far from the same.

Not true. Unless you are telling me the heads are much different. I know they use shafts with differing flexes and kick points and stiffness and length. Essentially tailored to their individual swing.

I've played with UnbeWEAVEable, Zach.

I know you don't wanna hear this, but the dude is right. You're wrong.

There's really nothing to discuss. You come from different time. Young golfers today are much better and more competitive than those of your era.

How would this be possible? They have cameras all over them and hundreds to thousands of eyes on them depending on their fame. Yes Tiger took an illegal drop last year. But got called on it.

But they play by the rules. Who lost the PGA for grounding his club in a "bunker" that was never raked and had a beer can in it I believe?

ETA. I see you were talking about average players. Tons cheat. But not all "cheating" is equal. Foot wedges and pencil golf are different than pace of play "cheating" during a busy Saturday. For instance if I blast 3 drives OB and a group is waiting I am an a-hole. Move your arse down the fairway and hit from the rough.

Yes, the term "lots" is both subjective and relative to your experience.

I've played golf competitively for most of my life. So, I have seen "lots" of people break 70 playing strict USGA rules.

Throw in the fact that there's somewhere around 30-40K scratch golfers in the US, that's "a lot" of people with the potential to break 70 playing USGA rules. Especially on their home course.

No, you're pulling a random number out of your arse based on your small sample size of experience.

You guys are the biggest liars of all sportsmen. You say you know what the rules of golf are. So, you know more about the rules than Tiger Woods? He got caught cheating 4 times last year.

Which means he probably cheated at least 10 times and didn't get caught.

BTW, I shot a 33 today...Friendly golf.

I, too, have played competitively and even playing 18 holes with a buddy you do play by the rules. Every round I played I treated it like it was competition, it was just a little more relaxing when it was with some friends and not worrying about a cut.

I'm telling you old man, stop arguing about shite you know nothing about.

There's a good group of professional golfers that don't strictly know the rules. They rely on caddies, especially in times of mental pressure, to help them. Go to a tournament and watch how many times a rules official gets called over. You'd be surprised.

Yes, I do know exactly why Tiger got called on a penalty last year at the Masters. Would you like an explanation?

I would say 85 - 90% of rounds at your average country club or course are not played by usga rules.

While I agree, I'll say that the golfers that have the ability to shoot 70 and below are far more likely to be playing usga rules IMO

So to say that not many guys can break 70 playing usga rules just isn't true.

When you get that good, I think you are far less likely to bend the rules.

Maybe but my group is all scratch and we play usga rules except we give close putts. So we would fall in the 90% category.
