Someone stated that if she is held in contempt and actually arrested it would somehow affect her pension. If true, they may do it to crank up the pressure on her to cooperate without giving immunity.

so we allow the IRS, DOJ, OSHA, EPA, and whoever else to target political groups the current administration doesn't agree with?

I think you're jumping ahead here.

that's exactly what happened here (ok, not epa, but atf, osha, irs, and fbi)

This bitch... "The careful deliberations of this committee"

Issa has fricked this thing up from the word go, but that doesn't excuse Lerner.

I think the problem is the president set the tone for this. I don't think you'll find anything close coming directly to the president. The time line for when the president started criticizing these groups and when the IRS got involved isn't a coincidence

I think he did more than set the tone. I think he and Valerie Jarrett set it all in place. I believe their intent was to do as much as they could to destroy as much of the R's base as they could, by any means necessary. And that they felt, he being the 1st black President, there would be little to no backlash for it. And to a large degree, they were getting away with it, with the free passes the press have given them.

Do you really think the president is involved at the level of looking into legitimacy/tax exempt status of non profit groups?

Do you think this happened in a vacuum without top level directives? Really?

Sickening to hear all these folks claiming how Unconstitutional this is, after all the unconstitutional things THEIR party forced upon Americans.

I find it more sickening that they are claiming they want to get to the bottom of it as much as the Republicans... No they don't, its all a dog and pony show.

I want to see the look on her face when she realizes the DOJ can't save her. In fact, if the House holds her under their inherent authority, the President can't even pardon her. Ex Parte Grossman went to the Supreme Court where it said that the president can't pardon a person held by the House.

This admin. has put up every road block imaginable to stop this investigation. The inherent authority was put in the constitution for this exact reason. I think they should bring out the House Sergeant at Arms.

Every single argument in Lerner's favor, is basically shouting political shenanigans. None have addressed the actual issue of her Lerner waiving her rights, and shown/proven that she has not.

Yes. They're doing all they can to keep her from being held, since nobody can help her. They likely fear she will talk if jailed.

"The Supreme Court reversed a century of law to open the floodgates for special interests -- including foreign companies -- to spend without limit in our elections. Well I don't think American elections should be bankrolled by America's most powerful interests, and worse, by foreign entities." Obama State of the Union 2010

It was also terribly inappropriate when he openly encouraged belligerent reaction against the Supreme Court with the Justices sitting in the chamber. It was a cheap shot, and multiple constitutionalists and scholars believe it may have violated the spirit embodied in our government’s commitment to the separation of powers.
He definitely set the tone and I don't think there has to be a smoking gun to link him to the IRS scandal. He stated for the world to see, he did not agree with the decision.

Yup... The repubs are going after her waving her rights, which is the crux of this hearing, whereas the Dems are attacking Issa and how this process has played out.

Issa is a dipshit, but that is irrelevant to this hearing. Did she or didn't she wave her right by declaring her innocence beforehand.
