As long as the LAST place team is relegated to the next lower division/competitive level...I'm on board !
I.E. Cubs,Royals,Lastros = proverbial also rans that rarely even TRY to put competitive teams, on the field and feed off the teat of the MLB television contract year after year after year...

The idea that teams can tie 0-0 and then 1-1 and then have one be declared the "winner" is preposterous.

i understand that it seems weird but trust me the more you watch the more sense it makes. I wouldn't want anything like it for any other sport, but for soccer it really is the best system.

The worst is playing 38 games, and deciding a tie, with goal differential. Now that is fricking stupid.

You decide a tie on the field, 1 game, Neutral field. Seriea used to do that, but now go with head to head shite, like Laliga.

Yeah i still don't get that. Either play a playoff match for the title or decide it based on H2H since it's a true round robin.

I understand it isn't workable to play a third game, but the idea just seems like a cop out to avoid penalties. The example score I was referring to was from a series between Barcelona and Chelsea a few years ago. They tied 0-0 the first game, and Barcelona was trailing into stoppage time the second game, when I think it was Iniesta who tied it up for the win. I think that was the first time I've seen it take affect live and have not liked the idea since.

that's part of it, and that's a good reason as PKs is the equivalent of a free throw contest to decide the winner in a basketball game, but it's also to encourage teams to play aggressively. Soccer lends itself naturally to prioritizing defense over offense (especially away from home), and this rule incentivizes teams to break that mentality and try to generate goals, which makes for a better product.
