Actually, weird story involving a cougar / mountain lion.

My parents live on Sherwood Forest golf course. And it was shut down about a year ago. Well the ditch on the golf course is Jones Creek. And it goes all through BR and what not. And my parents house is 1 of the closer houses to the ditch.

Well, there are a lot of people that still walk the golf course for exercise and what not. And 1 day, some older man knocked on my parents door and started talking to my Dad. He said he was walking the golf course and just saw a Mountain Lion or a Cougar in the ditch, walking towards Sherwood Forest blvd. He swore on his life it was a mountain lion / cougar. My dad even asked him if he was sure, and the old man said something along the lines of "I was raised on a farm and Im not a dumbass, I know what a cougar / mountain lion looks like".

They had all sorts of people go out there and do some research and what not. Dont know what they found, but am curious.

Hell, I trapped one not too long ago...

Though in all seriousness, I've spent a lot of time in New Mexico and seen cougar before. That said, by far the biggest one I ever saw was NW of Gulf Shores (AL) about 12 years ago. Big arse sumbitch ran across the road right in front of me about 6 am around County Road 12. I was stunned

I wish I had the money to buy a big cat and dye it black. Then I would cost random tracts of land to find game cameras for it to pose in front of

I think there are 2 potential big cats that travel through Louisiana. The black jaguar & the Florida cougar/puma. One being black & turning chocolate brown with age & the other tan.

I've seen one big cat jump off some oak tops piled up on Kisatchie National Forest. Leaped of the back side & gone.

Another time easing around gravels out around saline lake saw big cat cross the road bout 150 yards out. Got on across the road with few steps it seemed.

Both times seemed to be a hell of a lot bigger than a house cat. Wish I could have got a scope on either. Happened to fast. Don't know if I would shoot.

Why don't the spotted ones, which make up 95% of the jaguar population, come into LA?

Grew up bewtween Jackson and Port Hudson. Had one climb a tree while I was hunting. All I could do was hit it in the face with the butt of the rifle since the tree limbs were only cleared for a shooting path out not down. I wouldn't say it was a "black panther" but it was a big arse cat with yellow eyes and squealed like a scalded baby. At least as big as a lab. Never hunted in that stand after that ever again.

Eta: I was around 14 yo at the time.
