Wait so you really think OBJ is better than Cooks?

Yes. That's my opinion and why he's #1 in my list.

Isn't the title of the thread "Post Your Top 8 Big Board"?(emphasis added by me) Considering this thread seems to be asking people to provide a subjective listing from the available options, my opinion would appear to be perfectly fine.

But please, enlighten me as to why Cooks is so obviously better than OBJ.

Mosley (we need a great ILB desperately)
Fuller (still need CB)
Ealy (Not a need, but would fit perfectly in the 3-4/4-3 changeups we do)
Nix
Verrett
Roby
Benjamin
Ford

I like this list. I'd put Ford above Benjamin; other than that, I agree on all points.

I thought about it and probably would when it came time to make the pick. I just feel OLB is not a need; whereas, WR clearly is, especially for a big boy. What I've read on Benjamin says that he has all the tools but that he may have a poor work ethic. That always is the biggest red flag for me with any player. Talent is too often squandered with no effort.

So yeah, I have essentially just talked myself out of Benjamin. I personally like Jordan Matthews better than him.

Outside of Junior Galette, we haredly have much of anything to depend on.

Looking 12 months out at the position, we can literally have only Rufus Johnson on the roster.

You are wrong about the need to add an OLB.

I'm as optimistic about Victor Butler as anyone but he is far from being a proven talent. Problem is if he does well the less likely the Saints might be able to bring him back (cap hell doesn't end this year). Juneyah truly is a marginal OLB. His hand was in the dirt the vast majority of the time. Not a hole but not a no-need position.

Barr & Mack no way available
Attaochu next for me, slight stretch tho
Shazier & Ford need refining and would only be role players IMO

I like later guys for value/match at this position-

Trent Murphy
Van Noy
Jeffcoat
Christian Jones

If Van Noy is 100% recovered from the nagging injuries, he should be gone very early in the 2nd round.

I prefer Matthews, i think benjamin gets more cred because of the championship.

Other than that, he's a BIG 6'5 240lb WR that runs slower than....

Jimmy Graham!

He runs even slower after the drops the ball...which is quite often.

Oh, I'm sorry, am I not allowed to ask if you really thought OBJ was better than cooks or if it was a typo(which is what I was hoping). I mean this is a discussion forum, correct?

I see that you're an LSU fan, so clearly this is pointless, but besides the fact that Cooks doubled OBJ's production last season; he was also shut down by Florida, Alabama, Arkansas, and I would say A&M too since he was largely irrelevant in that game as well. Doesn't run full NFL route tree.

Brandin on the other hand was absolutely toxic to every opponent he faced last year. He's the winner of the Fred Biletnikoff Award and was a consensus All-American.

Let me give you some homework:
Search "Biletnikoff award" and take a look at the names he's in the company of. Then have a seat.

That's an incredibly positive spin.

I don't have a dog in this fight (sorry, Vick!) but Cooks had more opportunity than OBJ.

Oregon State threw the ball twice as many times (625 times to LSU's 326).

LSU

quote:

Passing: Attempts - Completions - Interceptions - TD 326 - 205 - 9 - 23

Oregon State

quote:

Passing: Attempts - Completions - Interceptions - TD 625 - 413 - 16 - 38

LINK

Should also add that OBJ had 1,152 yards on 59 receptions. Cooks had 1,730 on 128 catches. So, Cooks had more than twice the catches and less than 600 more yards.

Moot point. OBJ could have been first look and not been open. Too many outside factors to impact this.

Butler is the other guy. While we don't know how he will be coming from injury, he does have an upside that's promising. So yes, you have a good point.

Galette has a few years left on contract, unless I am mistaken. I agree with you that next year we may have a need at the position; however, this year we have more pressing needs at CB and ILB.

I shall refrase this a bit. I think we can't ignore the position. I do believe it is a secondary need for us, because ILB, CB and WR are more immediate. I would rate OLB 4th on that list. The thing is that it is a position that historically can be filled in mid to later rounds.

If he performs that well, we can tag him next year. But you are right, we will most likely lose him.

This was due to scheme based on injuries and depth issues. He fits ideally as a 3-4 OLB, but he played nicely with hands on ground.
