Yeah check the fuel line first. If you have another one around or a friend has one, plug it in and try it even if you dont see any issues. If that is the problem, most likely stemming from the bulb. After that a good carb cleaning will probably get it going. Doesnt sound like anything major. May even be a small piece of trash with no filter.

My boat does something similar, runs fine, good RPM for a whole day. Then next trip out, will be running ok, then at 70% throttle, the RPMs will drop and not come back up with additional throttle, will rev up RPM for a second or two, then back down. Next trip, runs like a scalded ape. I can not figure out what in the hell is going on, except mine idles rough.

I would also clean/replace the spark plugs. It could be that it isn't hitting on all cylinders.

I had the same problem with a 50 Merc awhile back. It was a small carb adjustment. From what I understand, there are high volume jets and low volume jets.
I could "floor" the throttle and get going but when it came to when I couldn't do that, like at a dock, it would kill everytime.
When I took it in, the guy just adjusted the low jets and it worked fine after that.
That was a long time ago, but just telling you my experience with a similar problem.

Took it to the shop turns out the high speed jets in the carb were clogged with junk from the ethanol gas eating up my fuel line.
