Exactly. Always nice when something worthwhile is a big success. Especially someone like Captain America. It firmly plants him as the #2 property behind Iron Man, which really makes him #1 since I doubt we get another solo Iron Man until After Avengers 3. Although Evans isn't long for the character, he's leaving quite the mark.

The international numbers are intriguing not only from the "Captain America" angle, but with the idea that Marvel is really making the MCU a worldwide thing.

There might be a strategy to branch out into true international characters: Black Panther, Sunfire, even someone like Namor could have a more national appeal (but F4 origins I believe). Shang Chi, Justice, Black Knight.... there are options to tweak a lot of characters too like Moondragon or Hellcat.

I saw this last week & absolutely loved it. The best stand alone Marvel film besides Iron Man. The action was great. Plan on seeing it again for sure.

One of them is currently in the Uncanny Avengers line up, I think.

Oh well. Yeah the X-Men always had a lot of International characters, there aren't that many on the Avengers side, or the non-X-Men side.

With the international appeal, it would be smart to develop some of those properties.

just saw this Saturday....and damn was i blown away. by far the best standalone marvel film to date....and if the rest are gonna be this good, i cannot wait to see them.

and the inscription on the tombstone had me cracking up.

Observations I saw:

1) how they tied in the other movies to this one was awesome. the references to the president from IM 3, the Cameo of the senator from IM2. the references to Banner.....all genius.

2) Nick Fury - you knew he had a presence, but damn they let him be a badass in this film. i loved SLJ as Fury in the other films, but this was above what I expected.

3) Winter Soldier to me, was as well cast and potrayed as Loki - some may disagree, but I loved it.

4) Hydra and Shield - loved how they worked that into the plot, and it made it great.

5) Falcon - was never a fan in the comics, but loved him in the movie - hope to see a lot more of him.

all in all i enjoyed this film and wanted to see it again. hell my wife wants to see it again.

Thought Captain America 1 was bad, but this movie was awesome.

She had a lot of reasons. She doesn't particularly like action movies that much. When she does, she likes them to have identifiable characters, emotion, heart, some kind of believable love story if possible, high stakes, etc.

She found the movie to be a total bore. She said the action scenes went on way too long and were just one after another. She never felt scared for the characters or gave a shite. No heart or emotion, no love interest. Never felt invested. Just boom boom boom over and over again.

I don't agree, although I do see some of her points.

FYI: My wife isn't even remotely a nerd, and is not into comic books or know the characters. But she liked the first Captain America...a lot more.

We probably should have gone to see Grand Budapest Hotel, because she likes Wes Anderson. I could have seen this with a friend or something.

I avoided pretty much all threads, reviews and trailers.

Overall, I really liked the film.

Didn't like Redford simply because I knew instantly with him in the movie, he was going to be the bad guy. Not a huge problem, because he pretty much revealed that pretty quickly.

Knew Fury wasn't dead because a doctor injected him after they stopped resuscitating him. Wish they had clipped that scene.

Also since I read the comic 100 years ago I knew Bucky was the Winter Soldier. Wish I hadn't known that.

None of those are anything but slight niggles.

Oh, the 3-D sucked. Not sure if the 3-D was retro or if it was shot in 3-D but it was so minor as to not be worth the extra money. Spidey 3-D looked top notch but still have no interest in the reboot.

Wonder what the body count was in this movie? I know they tried to play it off that everyone on the ships was Hydra but that would be pretty hard to believe. Seems like there were probably a lot of friendly fire deaths.

GOG looked decent enough in the trailer. I noticed The Collector in the trailer.

What is the release schedule looking like for the next couple of years? Are they still going forward with a Strange movie. Strange was one of my favorite books but mysticism doesn't translate too good to the screen. Probably the reason the knuckleheads destroyed Mandarin.

Don't get me wrong I know he was a major character but I just feel he wasn't used to his fullest capacity in the Avengers. All he did was amuse Loki in Germany, cool 2 hot heads in a forest, do acrobatic things to get the helicarrier staying afloat, clear a building of Chitari, and fight on the streets and finally got to call the shots at the very end, which I knew was a big deal because he essentially leads the Avengers. So all the more reason when he had that fight with Batroc to prove he was "more than just a shield". Also having TWS fighting him proved an equal challenge that I was glad to see.
