I picked up a Mathews Switchback XT loaded out for $300 2 years ago, it been good to me so far. Whisker biscuit and set at 70# but will probably have it turned down some this year. What Peep sites do you guys use? Mine is a round ring with 4 strings around it... its a piece of shite, always in my field of view. Heard the G5 mata was good

I've always used the meta peep. I think I use a 3/8". Brother uses 1/4" It's all preference.

Shame you weren't looking before the season. I sold my Z7 and bought a Chill.
I shoot year round. At least 3-4 times a week during the off season and every day during hunting season. I don't really rifle hunt at all anymore and haven't for the past 6-7 seasons.
Brace height and ata depends on the bow. I like a shorter ata bow just because they're better in stands and easier to manage. When I used to shoot 3D often I had two separate setups. Longer ata for 3D. I stopped shooting 3D as much though and sold my Monster. I also like a shorter brace height. My Chill is 7" and the Z7 was too. The Extreme is 7 3/8". Not a big fan of the extra 3/8". It almost feels too forgiving.
The only thing biscuits are good for are keeping your arrow in one place. Now, there are dropaways that can do the same thing without the extra noise, decreased speed, and drop in accuracy. People will argue this until they're blue in the face, but whisker biscuits do negatively affect your accuracy. It might not make a big difference to someone who just shoots every once in awhile, or someone who just pulls out their bow a few times during the season, but if you start tuning your own shite and paying attention, you start to see the difference it makes.
I'm a fan of buying used stuff just so someone else can take the hit for you. Bows are sketchy though. I'm more comfortable buying bows from people I know just so I know how they were handled. I'm really picky about bows though (if you can't tell from this post hah).
I like Mathews. Hoyt makes great bows too though. Apples and oranges. I can't get comfortable with the Hoyt riser, but I know plenty guys who shoot Hoyts who say the same thing about Mathews risers.

One of the top three bows Mathews has ever produced IMO. Also one of the smoothest drawing bows I've ever shot. I shoot a meta. Peeps are peeps. Depends on what you like. When I shot 3D often I shot a clarifier with a lens kit too. All depends on what you're doing and what you're comfortable with. My buddy sold his Switchback XT and bought a DXT. He shot it for a month, found another XT on sportsman, then traded him the DXT for the XT.
You can get super technical with peeps if you wanted to, but you'd be better spending that energy/time getting picking a solid sight and getting as comfortable as possible with it.
ETA: mahootney - if you've shot the Hoyt and you like it, buy that. That's a good deal for a great bow. Also if you asked about weight (saw people were posting about it skimming thread), weight is subjective. Pull what you're comfortable with. Practice with jacket/pants/etc. when it's freezing cold. You'd be surprised how much freezing your arse off 30ft in a tree can affect your ability to pull 70lbs. My bow is maxed out at 74lbs at 29", and my Z7 was maxed out at 71lbs. I have friends that kill just as many/more deer than I do and pull less weight than I do. Shot placement and energy are infinitely more important than draw weight. I shoot 297fps, which is considered "slow" by some of my friends for a Chill, but I shoot a really heavy arrow.

-I shoot a trophy ridge dropzone rest but will be getting a new drop rest for next season.
-I bought my bow used because it was only used on the range at the place I used to work. It was owned by the technician there and since we were close friends I got an awesome deal on it.
-I've owned 2 bows. My first was a pse spyder youth bow. Then I bought my pse x force axe 6. So I'm a pse fan.
-I shoot pse because of the speed I get with my short draw length. I also pull back 68#.
-I wax my strings whenever I think about it and they've lasted me a while. I've had my bow for 3 seasons now and I'll be changing the strings this year. I think they'll be good for next year but it's not something I take chances with.
-Easton arrows with g5 montec broadheads. Never worry about the blade not opening. I may change to carbon express this year though.
My question to other bow hunters is; do you plant a food plot for bow season? If so, when do you plant?

I haven't bow hunted very long and only had one bow season on a lease where we could plant. But, that said, I didn't. We plant our plots for the rifle season. I set up out there to bow hunt with a climber, just on funnels where there was a lot of deer traffic. Basically, I would just walk a lot of the lease through the valley's and what not in the late season/just after season when the leaves drop and figure out the easiest ways for deer to get between different areas. Then just find the narrowest point and find a good tree close. Then corn it up some, but I wasn't setting up to shoot browsing deer, more just setting up where they pass through. That was in mississippi hills.
In the swamp, I threw out a lot of feed, looked for sign, tried to stay in areas with a lot of sign kinda easy for me to drag a climber to. And never saw shite yet

Y'all should sign up for the McComb recreation 3d shoot. Costs $25 and you shoot once a week for four weeks. Trails through the woods, ALL kinds of animal targets to shoot...was really fun last year.

Is it better to learn with a larger Axle-Axle and 7" Brace height?
Having never shot a bow before, but being interested in transitioning away from rifle hunting, I went to a bow shop in 2011. I shot the top and middle level bows for pse, matthews, bear, and hoyt. I preferred the hoyts.
Things I did notice, when I shot bows with a 6" brace height, they felt way too aggressive for me. So, I'm still leaning to the 6-3/4 to 7" BH.
I'm not sure I have a preference between 31-35" ATA, but I understand the concept of compactness in stand.
Is it due to lack of experience that the shorter ATA's felt a bit too much for me?

I've shot there a few times man it's pretty awesome.
American Hunter in Covington also does a 3D shoot on the weekends. They have a cool course behind their shop off old 190.
My friend owns a shop in Franklinton and he does a big shoot two or three times a year. When he does it this summer I'll post. It's a really good time. Last year we did it at the rodeo arena at the fairgrounds in Franklinton.

I understand the concept of BH. The 6" BH Alphaburner was stupid fast.
When I tried a 30-31" ATA, I didn't like it compared to the 34-35" ATA bows.
It had a similar effect on me as the short BH.
Is there some mechanical difference between either end of the ATA spectrum?
