However, the window to make money playing professional sports is very small for most athletes, especially in the NFL. If you can take the money while you are young you can always go back to college. But like the OP is saying, eventually getting a degree is very important.

reality is this: most bring home about a millions dollars in a career, they overspend on houses, cars and lifestyle, they sign with crap agents and have hanger ons. When the career is over in 4 stellar years they have too much debt and are in bad financial shape. IF they have a degree they have a shot. There are a shite ton more broke ex NFL players than their are Shaquille Oneals.

Not to disagree with OP because I think getting a college degree is one of the most important things athletes can do. I don't like what's going on in major college programs, with the elite kids seemingly playing a couple of years to prepare themselves for the NFL and leaving after the obligatory two years for a shot at making it at the next level. I'm especially disturbed by the number of LSU players' leaving early the past 2-3 years. However, you can't blame a can't-miss guy like KeKe Mingo - especially that he's back at school getting his degree.

On the other hand: Trei Turner? Negative.

6.5% of high school football seniors make it to the NCAA?

That's better than 1 in 20 which is much higher than I expected.

The thing though is that every 4 or 5 star high school player thinks he's the next Adrian Peterson and that those stats don't apply to them.

2014 NFL min salary- $420,00

Income after taxes- $252,000

And then deduct state taxes (most states have income tax of 5-10%). Funny how you can approach making a half mill a year and end up with a quarter mill. Makes me love the new US of A.

You realize top tax rates used to be a LOT higher than what they are now, right?

So go ahead and vote for the taxation kings next time. It sounds like that's what you want. We all have the right to vote.

All I'm saying is that when these kids see they can make a lot of money very few of them calculate the real income after the government takes their share...

You do realize it is directly related to amount of revenues generated etc. football 45 players 16 games vs baseball 25 players 162 games

Doesn't matter for shite. You can add in there 15% chance of getting processed by saban if u go to bama. Every three star and above thinks he is an nfl lock now. You can't change their minds with stupid facts and statistics. Their family and agent say they are the best ever.

Its not as bad as you think. Reid and minter already graduated. So you have EEs and red shirts. They have been here ling enough to get a degree. Not everyone who left LSU before eligibility ran out, left before getting a degree.
