At least know what you are talking about.

They took Charles Brown in the second round. That's two USC linemen in the last 7 years.

The Saints have taken a grand total of 2 LSU players in the first 2 rounds in the whole history of the franchise. One was Dalton Hilliard and the other was Devery Henderson. I would say that both of them contributed far more than the USC guys.

I'm not normally biased against/for schools either... but something about USC and both offensive/defensive linemen does not seem to work out for us. When they drafted Ellis I knew he was going to fall flat, but a lot of teams got burned by the 'roided-up stable of Pete Carroll's USC team. The players get drafted, quit using PEDs, and then magically start to suck. It's like magic!

To be honest though I think Martin will be pretty good in the NFL, but the issue with PAC12 linemen (both Offensive and Defensive) is there is not much emphasis on that position in that conference. SEC is all about the big guys up front, and by the time they get to the NFL they are either greatly experienced and transition or their knees are shot from playing in the bedlam.

I think he's referring more to Charles Brown.

ETA: Late on that one...

We struck out on the last USC OL we took, as well as the last Center we drafted. We're due for some luck, right?

hard for me to call any 5th Rd pick a bust (Tennant). 3 years and 36 games is prolly closer to 5th Rd average than fail.

Bentley, Hilgenberg, & Edelman were all decent Center draft picks.

There's some history to be found in positions from different schools but I've never subscribed to the don't draft player X from school Z cuz they don't produce from there.

I agree that it's hard to call him a bust being that he was drafted in the 5th round, but he was the 2nd rated Center in the draft, and projected to go as high as the 3rd. Out of those 36 games played I doubt many, if any, were played on anything but Special Teams.

I definitely agree with this, which is probably the worst argument around draft time along with "Look at the teams that guy played against, he didn't even play in the SEC!".

I played in the SEC, so there is some bias on my side, sure. Not particularly a "school" bias, but I firmly believe the SEC is the hardest football conference to play in.

There's no arguing that, but it gets old hearing arguments against certain prospects because they played in the ACC, PAC 12, or BIG 10 and not in the SEC. I understand concerns about prospects from D2 schools, but to act like good prospects don't come from conferences outside of the SEC is just dumb. Not saying that's your POV though.

If either Martin or Richburg are there at our pick in the third, I think we definitely consider it.

I think they not only consider it but, in fact, pull the trigger. The team is going to hit CB or WR in the 1st and go after whichever position they didn't fill with the pick in the 2nd. That fills two of the most obvious needs positions. It all becomes need/value after that and Center is right up there.
