Yeah you gotta love all the people who don't smoke that are experts on pot. The real irony is they probably all drink.

Great bro. It's a rather sordid admission that you have somehow elevated to respectability in your mind. I bet if I was able to have access to the facts and details of your life I could find some serious bull shite that has arisen due to your daily stonage, least of all (and this is typical with daily stoners) a failure to optimize on the opportunities that present themselves every once in a while that you need to be highly-focused and CLEAR enough and MOTIVATED enough to recognize.

Look man, I don't begrudge you your pot. Many of my life-long friends are stoners and I like them and/or respect them. But let's not pretend it's some kind of noble pursuit. It's a crutch or an escape at best. I mean, it's not really something that successful people pass along to their children. It's a vice.

Don't get angry at me for stating the obvious.

Until it does, anyone who purchases pot legally in Colorado, will be felons if they lie on a 4473 form and will legally be barred from purchasing a firearm from an FFL dealer if they answer truthfully.

I am not an expert as I have never smoked anything. Doesn't stop me from being legalization. Just as never shooting a gun doesn't keep me from being pro gun control. To state you can't have an opinion on these issues because you never participated makes me ask if you can have an opinion on abortion if you never have been pregnant.

The addiction argument is flawed in two ways.

1. Pot is just like alcohol is just like gambling is just like sex is just like eating is just like watching QVC, etc ad nauseum. People with addictive tendencies will always find something to become addicted to. It's a strawman argument at best as people already get addicted to it even though it's still illegal in most places.

2. If we learned anything from Prohibition it's that banning the public from something it really wants only increases that desire and makes the doing of it more hip and cool.

Let it be legal, regulate it like alcohol and move on to something important.

1. I'm for legalization of all drugs. And opposed to any govt sponsored intervention to rehab victims. Let them die in the gutter. It's called freedom and consequences of bad choices.

2. I never tried marijuana or even cigarettes because my dad smoked cigs and it irritated my eyes and throat. My older Bro had the same experience and never smoked anything.

3. The only literature on the bad effects of marijuana that are consistent is 'lethargy.' IE, college students who smoke get lower grades than peers who do not smoke.

4. Cheech and Chong were not funny to me when they first came out. Decades later, they are still not funny at all.

You forgot to include Big Pharma and Big Criminal Justice to your list. (Both of which make billions off of pot illegalization)

Good talk.

Its inevitable and It's only a matter of time before weed is legal everywhere. Institutional inertia is the only remaining obstacle and even that is falling by the wayside.

It becomes OUR problem when these people live off the taxpayer dole. Whenever I go to the east side of Portland, I see why they say, "Portland. It's where young people go to retire.".

The states shouldn't have whined and gave away that power to the Fed in the 30's. As a 40 yr pot smoker, just legalize the shit, all this negative consequences is BS

just because you were worthless when you smoked some mexican ditch swag 20 years ago doesn't mean everyone experiences the same affects today

you'd be amazed how different strains will make you feel. nothing gets me more motivated that a nice pull of some sativa.

I don't know, the car scene in Up In Smoke may be one of the funniest I've ever seen.

Look any problems I have or have had in life I take full responsibility for. I don't blame my problems on pot. That's a cop out and an excuse.

I never said it was a noble pursuit but it's nowhere near as bad as you're making it out to be.

I'm not mad at you because you aren't stating the obvious only your opinion. Pot if used responsibly is not going to ruin your life anymore than somebody who has a beer or glass of wine each day after work.

These people lacked motivation to begin with. Pot or no pot, you'll end up supporting them.

You have absolutely no basis for this sweeping generalization.

Nope, this is an unsubstantiated supposition based on your rather limited personal experiences.

Carry on.

One of the dumber arguments in the debate is how if we legalized weed that the cartels would cease to exist and violence would die down.

They would just find other things to smuggle.

Drug Cartels are far too big and aren't just going to give up all they have and relinquish everything just because marijuana is legal in the US.

Use the gay lobby as an example. Will they just give up and cease to exist once gay marriage is legal in all 50 states? No, they will find another issue to wedge because the gay lobby is far too big and too much money/power is involved. Same with cartels. They will find something else.

I love the idealist POV, but I don't believe I could support this totally in real life.

2. I never tried marijuana or even cigarettes because my dad smoked cigs and it irritated my eyes and throat. My older Bro had the same experience and never smoked anything.

I've tried pot but along with not liking the buzz, I really don't like smoke entering my lungs. It gives me a claustrophobic feeling.

quote:

3. The only literature on the bad effects of marijuana that are consistent is 'lethargy.' IE, college students who smoke get lower grades than peers who do not smoke.

I could see that. I could see where a general population of pot smokers would be less motivated than a general population of nonusers and thus effect the smokers grades negatively.

4. Cheech and Chong were not funny to me when they first came out. Decades later, they are still not funny at all.

Cheech and Chong makes me cry laughing still today. "Nha mon, that's Labrador."

Well, organized crime and prohibition is a much better example, but the Gays are the "red herring du jour".......

This.... Except the recreational use.
