Even with concept art, the Italians got some ladies.

Am I the only one who really dislikes the look of most modern stadiums?

If this gets built I will definetely plan on checking out a match, seeing a match in Rome was already on my wish list!

I don't think there will be a crazy expenditure but I do think there'll be a hefty sum paid out for a number of experienced players:

1 CB (Astori is a prominent link at the moment)

1 LB (Definitely need an experienced LB to rotate as Dodo gains experience since Balzaretti is getting older)

1 MF (depth and to fill in considerably until Strootman is back from his injury)

+ 1 versatile winger/#10ish type (Ljalic may be sold as odd man out. Gervinho has been amazing and is leading the league in assists; Florenzi's solid and improving all the time but we need one more legitimate world class talent to compete with Juve).

+ 1 versatile striker (need a top notch guy to rotate with Destro even though he's coming along ver well -- think he's one of the top 4-5 strikers in Europe in goals/minute.

One of the attacking players will likely be a pretty big name and introduced at the official Nike announcement.


Also, we just bought Sanabria (versatile striker) from Barca and Parades (attacking midfielder) from Boca and sent them out on loan. Both were pretty sought after prospects and they, along with a couple of youth talents (Viviani, Antei etc) out on loan may figure in.



Last summer isn't a good comparison with the upcoming one since management thought the team was a bit too reliant on youth and wanted to flip 1 or 2 players that could fund multiple others more prepared to help fight for the Scudetto right away (Lamela and Marquinhos turned into Strootman, Benatia, Gervinho, Ljalic).



This summer, the first concern will probably be trying to fend off the PSGs and Barcas to simply keep Pjanic, Benatia, Castan etc. . .


I do think there's a chance Pjanic moves but wouldn't be the club's preference. They're well aware that the midfield is as strong as anyone in Europe and would love to keep it intact.



However, Roma's DS Walter Sabatini is a real wheeler and dealer. I'd not be surprised to see almost anyone move if Sabatini thinks what he gets in return can improve the club. (e.g. PSG throwing Pastore + a lot of cash Roma's way for Pjanic.)

Yeah, he was great last year.

Ironically, he's kind of been another Lamela:

brilliant flashes --mainly amazing dribbling skills in tight spaces and some great one touch passes on the counter. However, he's had the Lamela "headless chicken" -- as Zeman put it -- syndrome both in the attack with consistently poor choices in the final third and also in mental lapses in defensive coverage.

Nothing horrible as it doesn't seem any lack of effort but he's currently Garcia's last choice of options in the trident and therefore may be the most expendable regular player, by far, if Sabatini got a good offer.

Definitely, if scores a few goals in the last 10 matches to drive up interest by the "Totti effect" (whereby Roma consistently sells young attackers who playing with Totti makes them seem a bit more "ready" than they are.)

There was a different stadium plan when the Sensi family still owned Roma but it went up in smoke when the father died and the family finances went south.

Yeah, I like it too. The nod to the Colosseum in the outer facade is particularly well done. It's the kind of thing that could have easily turned out for the worst.


The American feel is due to the architect Dan Mies. He's American and designed Safeco Field, Lincoln Financial Field, Staple Center etc.

He was extremely impressive in how hands-on his approach has been. He's been in constant contact with even really small Roma supporter's groups and has actually been going to multiple Roma matches for the past couple of years and sitting in the Curva Sud with the Ultras.


Also, my guess is the 52k number is a bit fudged with an eye to Italy's extremely stringent public transportation and environmental impact laws.

I'd bet it'll be 60k when all's said and done with an eye to hosting CL finals etc. . .



EDIT: I hope they give away the seats near the pitch to school kids for free so the matches don't appear empty on TV. Unlike the English, Italians hate to sit low and not be able to see the whole pitch. . . tactics always rule.

Also the video shows the team rising from the ground on a lift. Is that something they will do?
in the clip it also showed some old footage where the team was walking out of a tunnel from the ground. And in the colosseum during gladiator fights they would have trap doors that would release animal and what not, so it does have some history.

Love the fact that they even have flares in the concept pics.
