MORE

“It’s still unfolding, so it’d be premature to say, ‘Hey, here’s our plan today,’” Payton said. “We feel we’ve got some good young linemen in the building, and I’m sure that as we get back to New Orleans and we still continue to look at our boards, I wouldn’t be surprised if there possibly is a player signed.

“But Tim Lelito would be a guy that’s gonna be in the mix, someone that will be competing for that opportunity. We'll see who he’s gonna be competing against. But he’s someone that we feel has a chance to be that player. And yet we think there could be the potential to have someone (else). And it could very well be a guy like de la Puente or another guy who’s out there.”

Agreed. That's why I would love Marcus Martin from USC. But also if Zach Martin falls... That'd be hard to pass up with his versatility.

The more time that goes on, the more I fully expect DLP to be back on the cheap for some competition with whoever they draft. I expect a 3 horse race.

Have there been no looks at Goodwin? I don't know what he is asking for money wise but he could be a good fill in
C and then the saints could draft someone later. I don't think lelito is a starter, unless something more develops with him. Hes a rotational guy.

He's started at guard before, and played well his second time, so he has the adequate strength for an interior linemen. The more important is getting the protections called. That's an unknown, but I believe he's had pre-season snaps at center.

Would say either Saints looked at his film last year and don't won't or his price is high right now and they are hoping it drops.

I think DLP is their first priority. Every day that goes by that he's still available, his price drops. If DLP were to sign somewhere else (only visit was Washington), then I would expect the Saints to go in on Goodwin.

I know hating on DLP has been the popular thing to do, and he did have a bad start last season along with the rest of the O-line, but I'd feel really good going into next year with the same O-line we ended with. I can't say the same about starting Lelito or a rookie.

target a high end center in the draft that has the capability to slide over to guard in a couple of years.
I still don't get this blues.

Almost every center can play guard, but very few guards can play center. Why slide a legit center over to guard instead of just drafting or signing another guard? Then you'd have to find a new legit center and have the same problem we have now.

Totally agree with this, or even bringing Goodwin back(his PFF score was higher than DLP's for what it's worth).

It's not that I don't think Lelito or a rookie could be good. It's that I don't know that either would be good. It's the unknown factor that's bugging me.
