re: Travaris Cadet The New Darren Sproles?

Yeah preseason against second and third stringers. He hasn't shown jack squat against first teamers. Those other guys did.

Looks like he'll get his chance but color me unimpressed to this point. Like every other player I have doubts about I hope he proves me wrong. I have nothing against him but my expectations are low.

Edit:
Yeah he can catch against lesser talent but how was his rushing against lesser talent? How many regular season catches does he have? How was he in 2013 in preseason? You're dead set on only bringing up 1 preseason and basing everything on his limited work against backups.

He hasn't had a chance too.

He's been kept for a reason. They obviously think it will translate, too.

And he hasn't had the chance because he wasn't better than the guys ahead of him.

He was kept because they thought he was one of the best 53 we had that year mostly due to his versatility on special teams and because he can catch.

But being at the bottom of the 53 and only making it because of versatility says little about his potential.

We'll all get a chance to see, but I'm not expecting anything above serviceable.

Right. It's not a conspiracy. He's not a secret stashed away.

There's also a good chance depending on our draft and udfa class that he might not even make the team.

That's generally not how it works when you have a veteran entrenched in the lineup ahead of you.

That's like saying Jimmy Graham wasn't any good because he couldnt play over Jeremy Shockey early in his career.

Graham is a physical freak that had to learn the game. Not comparable to Cadet at all. Weak sauce.

re: Travaris Cadet The New Darren Sproles?

Bull shite. When Payton has felt a guy deserves it he plays them over anyone.

Colston played over veterans his rookie year and was a big reason we let Horn walk.

PT massively cut into Bush's playing time despite one being a second overall pick and the other being an UDFA.

Stills got more reps than Moore and was a big reason we cut him.

Evans was a fourth round rookie from a small school and started immediately.

Armstead was a small school third rounder viewed as a long term project, yet when Brown fricked up one too many times Armsteadgot the call.

The examples go on and on and Ryan is finally bringing that to the defense.

Cadet is not a rookie. He's a third year player who has yet to carve out seriously playing time. That screams lack of talent a lot more than lack of opportunity given our history.

You love to use this as an excuse for him, but as others said, the ones you are comparing him to beat out or split time with their expensive, entrenched, or veteran counterparts.

Even when Sproles went down last year, you didn't see the coaches bring in Cadet for significant play. If he's there, they would've done so. I am not saying he won't get there, but basing most of your belief on a preseason two years ago while a more recent preseason presented a mediocre showing tells a lot.

Absolute main reason we let Donte Stalloworth go too. I remember I was so pissed. Haha I was young and didn't know anything.

If Donte's driving, my head is on a swivel. I know that.

re: Travaris Cadet The New Darren Sproles?

why does anyone have to replace sproles?

why does everyone expect someone to replace the same exact role a previous player had with the team? are we not capable of executing a different game plan? can our coaches not come up with new plays to fit the personnel we have?

everyone gets so stuck on insisting that once a player leaves, we need to find someone of the exact same caliber and mold to replace them when in reality all that matters is scoring points...

how you score is not important as long as the offense keeps moving

ETA: meateye, this post was not directed at you, just to the board in general

I was wondering that myself actually. Do we have to have that type of player to be successful?

lol no. Pierre returned kicks mostly his first year. He didnt get a crack until BUsh got hurt. shite Aaron Stecker had double the carries he had.

Colston, Stills, Evans, Armstead, i didnt say anything about those guys. Most were drafted as need players.

None were behind a player as good as Sproles. And that is basically what it boils down too. Sproles being entrenched in that role.

What does making the roster as an UDFA at a team's deepest position mean then?

You can flip it however you want it.

The facts are:

A)he was young at a deep position on the team

b)he was undrafted. He wasn't drafted for a specific need like many players are. Thus there wasn't exactly early playing time available(see point A again)

c)they weren't cutting Sporles coming off his fantastic 2011/2012 seaons.

Also, he is going to be a 3rd year player. He hasn't had 3 years to carve out serious playing time. Let's get that straight.

I think Cadet will surprise alot of people this season. Hes a good pass catching back with deceptive speed and shiftiness. Hes great in space after the catch just like sproles was and hes a better returner. Sproles was absolutley terrible at returns. Yet the media would always bring up how "dangerous" of a return man he was everytime he was back to receive. Shows how much they pay attention.

I never said in PT's rookie year. After Deuce was let loose PT and Bush split time.

And yes this is his third year coming up. I wasn't trying to twist it but I see that came out wrong. He's had two years to crack the rotation and hasn't. PT was basically a starter his second year despite having Bush.

And Ivory and Robinson earned time early so there's that.
