he article probably left out some seriously qualifying information, or was horribly wrong. Maybe they meant FITAP. Either way, it's wrong.

Have you been hit in the head or received a 'brain freeze' during the Alaska winter?

Primetime money in all his negativeness could only come up with an article that listed 19k recipient's of Welfare (TANF)for a specific year in Louisiana(2008 I believe he linked) .

It's apparent that it was 19,000 people(including the children ) not Households during that given year.

Only households of 3 or more with incomes of $30,000 /annually are qualified.

So 4 members or so per household & several thousand households per year you get your 15-20k recipient's of TANF(5 years for Lifetime benefits).

This article is talking about the whopping $192 per month per HOUSEHOLD paid out in TANF(and some elderly care subsidy they are lumping in with welfare to make it sound even more pernicious)

You can ignorantly keep saying the numbers are wrong despite the several links/articles or go find the correct numbers about TANF.

Money is fungible. If if someone's spending welfare on groceries, that leaves more of their own money available for cigarettes, lottery tickets or whatever, if they so choose. This makes it a little less convenient, but it's mostly a feel good measure that doesn't do much.

Agreed but it should be how the system works. If Democrats were smart they would fix this problem to shut the conservatives up. Oh wait, that would attack their voting base.

Welfare isn't limited to TANF

No it isn't when people like you want to villainize the poor & expand what 'welfare' is. We are talking about the specific program in the damn article & it is TANF(Welfare as it is traditionally called).

"Welfare" has some seriously negative connotations so those on the Right like to use it to demonize/stereotype all social services(which are a pittance compared to other waste, fraud,etc...)

This article did not mention any other program because other programs don't give cash like the whopping $192 per HOUSEHOLD of welfare recipients.

No one even mentioned the $419 per month on the elderly care subsidy & immediately bashed 'welfare'. I believe the elderly care subsidy pays people to 'sit with' or assist the elderly(cooking ,cleaning, medical appointments,etc..).

Nobody wants to villanize the poor, its your own standard leftist tactic that anything to reign in abuse is disenfranchising or a ploy of the rich or racist

No, I called it welfare because that is how it is broken down here:

I've heard the same argument from friends when I lived in California. I don't know where they heard it, but it's like a mantra. Social programs are a pittance?!

Fiscal Year 2014 LINK

Pensions (SSI/Disability)- $921.8 billion
Healthcare (Medicare/Medicaid)- $969.8 billion
Welfare (Housing/SNAP/etc.)- $395.9 billion

Just these three items account for nearly $2.3 trillion worth of federal spending... A pittance!

The ignorance is strong in this one.

Yes. An entire 3500 households who receive welfare in Louisiana (according to the article) at $192 per month.

And what small percentage are abusing it?
This is the type of nonsense Republicans get many Southerners to vote for them with their identity politics.

"those people"' & 'our taxes"(the whole $192).

Social security, SNAP, section 8 housing, medicaid

Spending money, groceries, living expenses, medical care

I guess they DONT need "welfare" since we're already paying for everything but their weed.

Wait, there is actually a dip shite who thinks only 3500 families in LA receive welfare?

would be hilarious except the ignorant son of a bitch can vote

Ripple effect. How much money is lost by these people not paying payroll taxes, spending money in the economy, etc. The loss of the idea of hard work isn't a pittance.

LINK

Welfare spending 2013: $2.8 billion

You just posted a link that verified what the original story correctly claim ,but now you want to dispute your own damn links with the Right wing expanded definition of the loaded "welfare".

Approximately 3500 families(not individual children) receive the whopping $192 / month for a family of at least 3 with an income under $30k per year. You pretty much verified the original article with your link of 19K total Welfare recipients for 2008.

I knew idiots would hijack the thread with their usual ignorance/bitterness. Some expanding Social Security/Medicare as "Welfare". Go tell your Parents & Grandparents to get off 'welfare' & that would be a start instead of ranting on a forum.

I am sure this 900k(SNAP) numbers are mostly children(total members of a Household) as well & certainly not individual applicants . Using individual children to pad your negative stats. Right wingers love those children when they are fetuses , but after they are born ...........'leeches'.

Both the Articles linked & yours specifically verifies what the OP original article states. Roughly 3500 HOUSEHOLDS are on the welfare(TANF) program Mr. stat padder.

Personally though I don't waste as much time obssessing over/villainizing poor families & hope they benefit as much as they can considering other waste.

Instead of whining helplessly on message boards maybe you guys can do something constructively to stop it like voting for Reagan or Bush or generic GOP. But I forgot they did nothing either , but play on your stereotypes/prejudices against certain Social programs to get your votes.

Personally I am enetertained when Right Wingers get upset about petty stuff they can do nothing about. You guys are so cute when you're angry.

In order to receive that whopping $192 per family you must have a family of at least 3 or more & earn less than $30,000 to get the 5 years of LIFETIME benefits.

Incorrect. I'm single and signed up for a paper I was writing for school. Insanely easy. They never checked my application. I had to go in for an "interview" to review the app and just talked to them for a little bit. Got the card, ~$180 a month, no questions asked. Never used it.

Do you honestly have problems with not allowing public money that is meant to assist those who are at the end of their rope to go towards frivolous non-necessities?

You have quite the narrow definition of "welfare spending."

quote:

wel·fare [wel-fair] Show IPA
noun

financial or other assistance to an individual or family from a city, state, or national government

No matter, I shouldn't expect you to acknowledge a definition that would be detrimental to your argument.

quote:

I knew idiots would hijack the thread with their usual ignorance/bitterness. Some expanding Social Security/Medicare as "Welfare".

Lovely, you've resorted to insulting those who disagree with you. However, since you seem to be ignoring this gem, let me point it out once again.

quote:

demonize/stereotype all social services(which are a pittance compared to other waste, fraud,etc...)

These are your words, not mine. Am I dreaming here? In what world are SS and Medicare/Medicaid not social programs?! They account for TRILLIONS of dollars of spending every year... And this is a pittance?
