The fake story surrounding Gemma Sheridan was first published by News-Hound. The article claims that Google Earth captured an SOS photo from the island where Sheridan was located. This photo allegedly led to the woman’s rescue.

However, upon further investigation, the photo appears to be from 2010 during a time of destruction in Kyrgyzstan. The photo in the fake article is cropped to make it appear like the SOS signal was made on a sandy beach. However, the real photo is nowhere near an island as industrial buildings can be seen surrounding the SOS.
The story from News-Hound may have been plagiarized and taken from a real story surrounding Ed Stafford. Stafford spent 60 days on a deserted island in 2013. The original article stems from the Daily Mail who reported on Stafford’s story. Much of the text in the Gemma Sheridan hoax story is verbatim from Daily Mail’s Ed Stafford article.
