will be interesting to see them bash the PS4 VR thing but praise the MS attempt at something similar.
Microsoft apparently has one in development. If it is still me sitting in chair with a chunk of plastic on my head it will still be dumb to me.
It is hilarious to hear y'all still hate on the kinect after how many people on here give it positive reviews. The first one was an absolute gimmick. I use the new one every day.

Honestly mine will get minimal use. Maybe when I have people over. I have each system in a different room.

I don't care for the Kinect except for skyping.
I don't use the motion controls at all

There are plenty of examples of new tech being viewed as a "gimmick" until it's not.
- Optical drive based consoles
- Analog sticks and rumble on gamepads
- Consoles with online connectivity
- Handheld's with dual and/or touch screens
- 3D TV's and games
Okay...well, maybe that last one did turn out to be a gimmick but the other's didn't once they matured enough. It's the same with this. These aren't even commercial products yet and it could lead to a development of games we can't predict right now. My mind naturally goes to taking modern games and shoehorning them into VR but that's not the best way to look at this. Games that can truly showcase the tech are probably a good ways off and still marinating in the minds of some talented future developers.
The industry went through similar growing pains with the jump to 3D (polygonal) gaming. Go back and play some of those early PS1 and N64 games and it's clear most developers weren't quite sure how to make the jump. It was a very iterative process and now when you pick up nearly any 3D game, you know exactly how to control it because of general standards that have been established.
It'll be the same for this.

How is motion controls the main point of the kinect?
Kinect was created for the sole purpose of taking some of the casual audience from the Wii. It's MS's answer to motion gaming.

And they realized that it didn't work, which is why motion controls are not a large part of the new one.

They're backing away from it a lot, but there'll still be dancing games and stuff like Kinect Sports.

The Rift 1 has never even made it's way out of being a development model so that isn't saying much and now the Rift 2 has been announced.
Guessing they maxed out what they felt they could do with the 1 considering it's "been in development" for like 3 years now. Probably needed some new hardware to further it along which is why the 2 is coming out.

It's hard to know what Geoff's statement really means since developers have had hands-on experience through various conferences with different models of the Rift. An early 1080p model was even being shown to some people behind closed doors while the 720p dev kits were still being shipped.
Regardless, there are several articles out there now with hands-on impressions of Morpheus.

Having tried both Sony’s new Project Morpheus virtual reality prototype for PlayStation 4 and the latest development kit from Oculus, I have to give the slight edge to the young upstart.
quote:
But the new Oculus had a larger field of view than Sony’s prototype. If you look far to the left and right on either headset, you’ll just see the blackness of the plastic casing. But I perceived it as being significantly more obvious on Morpheus.
quote:Obviously everything about these devices is in flux, so all of this has to be taken with a grain of salt but it's interesting to hear the Rift is still offering a better experience for now.
I noticed something else that was jarring about Morpheus. I looked down expecting to see the body of a guy in a flight suit. Instead I saw a guy in a hoodie wearing my GDC badge. You can see out the bottom of Morpheus. Sony said that this was actually by design. Apparently there are two kinds of virtual reality players — those who want to be totally cut off from the real world, and those who constantly want to be able to check that the real world is still there.

Any new updates on the release or games coming out for this besides DriveClub?
Figure with TGS last weekend something may have leaked?

Here is the most recent list of compatible games. LINK
They showed a video of Summer Lesson from Namco Bandai, but most things are normal games with VR capabilities. I don't think it's coming out until 2015 though.
Here's is an IGN video for their TGS impressions. LINK

Awesome can't tell you how happy I am about "Jurassic Encounter" being announced.
My girl is fascinated about all thing dinosaurs, this may just be enough to help push this purchase

I think racing games in that thing would be awesome

IMO it seems like the headset will make for much more personal play sessions, a long slow paced RPG adventure may be fun and that isn't something I'd normally play but would probably be fun.
Racing games seem a perfect fit for sure. #CantWait
