A 777 is a bunch of cutting-edge realtime technology. That it went down without the carrier admitting realtime confirmation says little for them.

Just as cutting edge as that Air France A330 that crashed in the Atlantic Ocean 5 years ago. Hopefully the Vietnamese reports of it crashing into the sea are false, but it seems like the most likely scenario right now.

Looking like a sad ending to this. I've flown from Kuala Lumpur to China once before but on AirAsia.

As one who flies weekly, this really hits home for me. Only thing one can hope for in this situation is that the passengers and crew didn't have enough time to suffer.

The worst is imagining the fear your loved ones experienced. I just hope it was catastrophic and instantaneous.

Given the amount of people that fly everyday and the human-error element, it's a miracle there aren't crashes on a regular basis.

That being said, may their souls rest in peace.

Vietnamese media outlets are saying it crashed into the sea, but nothing confirmed yet.

That ended up being a large amount of human error.

Just saw that on CNN. They're looking to confirm it with other sources.

Just awful. My heart goes out to all those families.

This can't be? The only confirmed 777 accident with fatalities was due to human error.

I know that, I mentioned it my previous post. You said that AF A330 crash was due to pilot error, I was merely making the point that the only confirmed 777 incident with fatalities (Asiana in SFO) was also due to pilot error.

777 > Anything Airbus. The fact that the 777 stayed intact in San Francisco last year is amazing. There would have likely been many more deaths had that been an Airbus.

What about the new 747-8? IMO, it's best 747 ever built to date.
