How has your music taste changed over the years?

How has your taste in music changed throughout your life? I graduated HS in 92 and listened to Country and Alternative grunge. But now I find myself listening mainly to Classic Rock, Blues and Jazz.

I would say as it naturally should. I'm 30. Rap and jam bands I hardly listen to. I like music with substance in the lyrics as well great instrument play.

listened to a ton of nola rap when i was in high school. got my car broken into and about 250 cds of said music was stolen. during this time i had also listened to electronic music loosely. from there, it gradually went to all electronic music. freshman year of college a friend of mine gave me a few drum and bass cds and ive been listening to the music ever since(14 years). i guess it stuck with me because i grew up loving drum lines and percussion in general.

Amazingly little since the early 70's. Most of the stuff I listened to then (Floyd, Zep, ABB, Zappa, etc.) still sounds good to me. I've added new bands along the way but I've jettisoned very few.
One genre that I get into now that I didn't then is New Orleans funk. I didn't pay much attention to the Meters but now I listen to a lot of PBS, funky Meters, Dumpstaphunk and similar bands.

Interesting. I think "They All Ask'd for You" is one of the first songs I can ever remember hearing.

Been playing music my whole life so I generally have listened to music that involves good musicianship and songwriting. All the music I've enjoyed growing up still hits home for me as talent doesn't die in my heart. I will say I'm less obsessed with dave matthews band than I used to be, but if it takes some skill to learn and fun to play, I will always enjoy it.

I will admit that when I was a child (under the age of 6), I was given a record by the Osmonds (I stared at the photo of Marie for hours
). I also owned the 45 single of "Disco Duck" when I was 8 years old (you younguns may want to Google "45 single"

I remember hearing that one and also their version of Mardi Gras Mambo. But I never heard any of their other stuff like Cissy Strut. The real funky stuff.

Really got into SRV, Allman Bros, BB King, Buddy Guy, Son House, Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, CCR, The Band, Grateful Dead, LZ, Pink Floyd, Muddy Waters, Bob Dylan, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder and on and on
Newer artists: Mayer, Bonamassa, Derek trucks, Gary Clark Jr, Jack White, Ray Lamontagne, Amos Lee, Anders Osbourne, etc.
I will like these forever.

It keeps getting broader and broader. The list of stuff I don't like is a lot smaller than that of the stuff I do. I feel so sorry for people who only enjoy a small sampling of all the awesome music that's out there to be found if you open your mind and your ears.

From 13-21 I listed to heavy metal, hair metal, alternative and punk. I also preferred singles and playlists over albums.
I'm 26 now and since I was about 22 I've changed my preference to classic rock and blues. And I'm all about albums now instead of a collection of different songs. Greatest hits aren't my thing anymore.

Grew up with the British Invasion and the surfer tunes. As I got into HS & college I loved what we now call Classic Rock, which was the drug-fueled protests of the late 60's-early 70's. Later on I developed a real liking for Country which I have retained to this day. I also hold dear the memories of my parents' music, Big Band Swing and the crooners and chanteuses of the 40's-50's. And on any given day I will switch to the Bluegrass Junction on XM radio just for a change of pace.
If it's good music, I can enjoy it !

Always hated rap and country.
Have always liked classic rock. My taste has shifted from heavy metal to more alternative and instrumental. I still like a good heavy song here and there though.
