re: OL Recruiting 2015 Edition

Basil....

What's your opinion on recruiting interior ol vs tackles?

Does grimes have any philosophy on how they move around?

Does he take tackles and move them inside? Or does he take guards and move them outside if things don't workout?

re: OL Recruiting 2015 Edition

The following is my opinion only:

I had heard that Grimes liked smaller, quicker offensive lineman, but I have seen no evidence of that so far.

Based on who he has targeted so far at LSU, it looks to me like he is going for prototypical body types for his line.

Just look at our first three OL commits:

Teuhema, 6-5, 335, projects at RT (I believe)
Shipley, 6-5, 260, projects at LT (frame to add weight)
Magee, 6-4, 320, projects at OG

The offer list backs this up too. The three top prospects at guard and tackle are prototypical and certainly not undersized.

Richmond is a LT with NFL potential and the top guy left in my book, followed by Tillery.

I can't really answer your question on philosophy, but based on the offers that are out, we are building a typical NFL style OL.

Do you guys think you take Grant Burgullois from Mandeville? He's a good looking prospect and has great feet. Mississippi State is close to offering I hear.

Are y'all recruiting Jozie Milton as a DT or OL?

I think we want to see him do both in camp before making an official determination. I read something about center.

Shea just CB'd Tyler Higby to LSU. A wrap is coming later today, so there's probably something to that.

I suppose we'll have to rely on the judgment of Coach Grimes regarding this latest OL pledge, surely beats relying on his predecessor.

He does project as a tackle, correct?

Things are looking pretty good for Zach Robertson. Grimes has been putting in work.

Recruiting slowed down and I got busy. If you guys see any changes that need to be made, let me know.

re: OL Recruiting 2015 Edition

Basil, was wondering about your view on Garrett Thomas pledging to Texas last week. Again, he projects as a likely guard in college & the state of LA has plenty, so LSU needs tackles, as has been mentioned many times on this thread.

Still, he has some solid skills and at 6'6, 310 (or close to that), Thomas has been consistently rated near the top among LA's OL prospects.

By the way, being from Texas and preferring Texas Tech among Big 12 teams, it was unfortunate that Thomas picked my least favorite college football team, Univ. of Texas. Some think he could still change, but will he even bother to attend LSU's lineman camp later this month?

Big Matt Womack is on board and shutting it down. All LSU and his goal is to graduate early and be an EE.

Nice bump! I see Womack isn't even in OP's list.

re: OL Recruiting 2015 Edition

There is an article or two out there about his physique...soft in the middle.

There is soooooo much time between now and when he gets on campus. He will be trimming down while bulking up....it's what the majority of 17 year olds do, these days.

Grimes took an already good player with unteachable size. It will be fun to see grimes develop these guys.
