Exactly like crack rock. The only difference is that my computers do all the work, instead of Puerto Ricans. While I sit back and make money for doing nothing.

Dear lord...I can't believe I've never heard this. This just lends so much more credibility to it all. I'm betting everyone knew this here so I'll probably sound stupid but I just found out what Mt Gox means/how it originated.

It was an online exchange for buying/selling some kind of game trading cards.

Ha, I never knew but often saw people reference Dungeon and Dragons and Magic the Gathering.

Is it pronounced Mount Gox or M-T- Gox? One question I always had.

That would be highly unethical and likely illegal.
I imagine that the MtGOX folks have made significant investments into the legal ramifications of their operations after the U.S. government announced its requirements for Bitcoin exchanges to follow moneychanger regulations. They would have been fools not to consider exit strategies as well. When they lost their banking relationship(s) with U.S. bank(s) the handwriting on the wall should have become more clear to them. Thus I'd be willing to bet they have good reason to believe their actions are not violating any laws they are likely to be prosecuted for.

If I had concocted an exit strategy involving the use of arbitrage gains to cash out big. I would have taken steps to avoid upsetting account holders who might use violence as retribution. I would have advised them to liquidate their accounts before I started manipulating the spreads available. Definitely unethical, but still I would have tried to limit the risk.

The btc-e bitcoin exchange has a message board on the side of its price quote page. So when I look at the latest price of btc on it, the message board is right there.

It's actually quite entertaining these days. Bitcoin true believers are paranoid to begin with, which is a requirement to be a btc true believer, so these days the conspiracy theories are running rampant on that board as to the reasons MtGox is doing what it is doing and who is "really" behind it. I had no idea Janet Yellen owns MtGox, did you?

There are some that hypothesize that bitcoin is a product of the NSA or some other government agency and they're using it to scoop up criminals. I don't believe that but wouldn't that be icing on the cake?
