but is anyone thinking about calling the bankrupt bluff and snagging some bitcoins much cheaper than they would otherwise be?
To do that you'd have to deposit your dollars (or whatever real currency you use) into an account with MtGox.

How many people want to put money INTO a company that is on the verge of bankruptcy?

But, high risk, high reward.....or NO reward.

Yeah, plus it's a pain in arse just to set up an account. They make you send them a copy of your picture I.D. Seriously. It can also take weeks to get approved, as well.

What would the operators of MtGOX do if they recognized their exchange operations had reached the limits of profitability and wanted to cash out big? Would they consider taking advantage of a minor crisis and intentionally crashing the price of BitCoins on their exchange, then buying the Bitcoins personally for <$300 and selling them on other exchanges for >$600? What better ploy to use than announce halts on withdrawals from accounts for the public? That would allow the MtGOXx operators plenty of time to make trades on other exchanges and cover the cash positions of customer accounts.

That would be highly unethical and likely illegal. No one involved with bitcoins would ever do anything unethical or illegal. You Luddite!!!

I would photoshop someone else's photo onto my passport and send it to them.

I'd love to see if they know what Ben Bernanke looks like in Japan.....

If so I look forward to wiki filing a motion to intervene in the case and dismissively lecturing the bankruptcy judge on how he "just doesn't understand cryptography."

Best line I've seen on the MB this year so far.

I'd love to see/hear the Japanese Bankruptcy Judge as he gathers the facts in your case against Mt Gox.

It's the equivalent of a doctor investing with "some guys he met" in an oil well in Africa.

Just had a million dollar idea. I'm going to start putting together a company for fairy dust lab cleanups. You're in bama though so this might be difficult.
