I've been using a Merkur razor with Feather blades. I have really enjoyed this setup. I almost always take a shower pre-shave, but don't use any specific pre-shave products. I use the Taylor of Old Bond St Lavender applied with an Escali badger brush, but will be trying the Proraso soon. I use a Nivea after-shave balm which I've been pleased with.

Not sure what places they have in Houston. Here in New Orleans we have Aidan Gill for Men, but I have found purchasing online to be the easiest route.

What kind of razor are you using? I got bumps real bad then switched to a safety razor and it helped a lot.

My goal is to be employed somewhere that I do not have to shave ever if I don't want to.

I may looked into getting one or two of those. I usually use Taylor of old bond street cream. I like to try different things every now and then.

I don't mind trimming. I absolutely hate shaving with a passion. I have such an incredible hate for shaving that I can not express it in words.

I've used Gillette, Schick, and all the other mainstream brands. This could be the issue, I realize.

I was the same way, then I switched to a safety razor setup (with premium cream applied with a brush). Now I actually look forward to shaving. It changed everything for me.

I'm going to have to try it eventually I guess. My facial hair is like wire and the only thing I've found to shave with that doesn't jack my face up is a brand new schick quatro blade.

Those multiblades are shite. I would suggest switching to a safety razor. Get you a badger brush and a good cream or soap. It'll take some getting use to when you first start and it may take you a while longer to shave than before, but it really does help with the bumps.

Over time it gets cheaper too. You can buy a 100 pack of double edge razors for $10 or you can buy 4 schick cartridges for $10. Unreal how expensive it is.

To each his own. It used to be something I just had to do every morning. Didn't hate it but certainly wasn't something I enjoyed.

Now that I've switched to a straight razor and higher end creams and aftershaves I actually look forward to it.

The Art of Shaving pre Shave Oil is good but $25 for a small bottle is ridiculous. I have found Almond Oil does the exact same thing. I found a large bottle at Whole Foods for under $15. The purpose of pre-shave oil is to soften your beard as well condition your skin.

I hear this does wonders for razor bumps. Formulated for black men, but a guy at work uses it and mixes it up his himself . This must be a newer version. He said it stinks like a mofo.

I sharpened the piss out of my pocket knife and used that one time and it worked.

I've toyed with getting a straight razor. The high-end shaving cream is what will never happen. I'll stick with hating it before I spend $25 on a little bottle of shaving cream.

Proraso in the green tube is "invigorating" FYI with eucalyptus and I believe menthol. I like it but it will light your face up. And if you have sensitive skin it may be too much.

Proraso makes a blue and a gray tub/tube for sensitive skin. After that Truefitt & Hill and Geo F Trumper.
