I thought Pete would get an OC gig before Lombardi

That makes it four Payton coordinators to get promotions. All in the last 5 years I believe.

Doug Marrone
Dennis Allen
Aaron Kromer
Joe Lombardi

Give it a few years and the bottom two guys will be mentioned in HC searches around the league. That's pretty neat. Now it's up to Payton to continue to fill these spots in the staff with similarly good coaches.

The play calling he did in '12 helped him not one bit.

Why would he take a lateral move somewhere else?

NFL's 2nd ranked offense with the worst D in history on a team with no head coach. Yeah, blame pete.

Congrats to Joe. Would have been nice to have if Pete had ever left, but expect to see an improvement in Stafford. Good hire for Matt's development.

Didn't he also call the plays for a good portion of 2011 when Payton broke his leg? Drew broke the record that year.

OK
During 2012 I don't remember one single thread started out of hundreds that said "damn Pete is calling some great games this year" or "we are going to lose this guy after this year with way he calls it" or "CSP has lost his play callin to Pete after this year". Etc.... on and on.

In fact the vast majority like 99.99% and correct me if I'm wrong was "God...I can't wait till CSP gets back to help this offense with the calls". "We need CSP and his in game adjustments back". On and on they went...like I said if i remember correctly.

I like Pete but whats more important is that CSP likes Pete.

My opinion about 2012 ONLY is that his playing calling left a lot to be desired and I believe in did not help his career as a OC for now. He could end up being the best coach ever in the future who knows but I'm just going by what I saw in 2012.

I would assume we're doing all we can to keep Pete in black and gold...

Not a bad gig at all from that standpoint. The Saints play at DET next season. Rob Ryan vs. Lombardi & his weapons should be interesting to watch. I really hope the Saints have everyone on defense healthy for that one.
