Nope. Just Amex. Chase and Barclay's etc will earn points. Amex is just smart about their stuff.
Curious to see how the "once in a lifetime bonus" plan shakes out for Amex.
I just can't see them turning down large spenders, however, I can see them doing a more thorough CC review like Barclays except to determine bonus eligibility and not just approval.

In other news, apparently Barcelona is cracking down on AirBnB. I'm not happy about this. It's the hotel equivalent to the stuff going on with Uber. Grr
Never used AirBnB. I've looked it over at the choices a few times, but just can't commit. It seems risky, and when I say risky, like, I'm going to show up and cats are going to be all over the place or something .
I do know it was banished in NYC as well. Are you going to Barcelona?
I stumbled across couchsurfing.com on a tripadvisor review. Now this could make for some interesting accommodations as well. Don't think my wife would approve of me "couchsurfing" on trips without her.

quote:I'd go Amex Gold if you could hit the 30k spend, if not, I'd go the AMEX SPG for non-category spend. Both have good transfer options, but SPG has more & bonuses transfers to all airlines. It's also only $65 annual fee waived year 1.
I am decently happy with my other cards but I wouldn't be opposed to spending more on this card

I used it all over Europe for the last 7 weeks. Split 3 ways, it makes for some pretty nice accommodations at a really affordable price. I was staying in awesome apartments in the city center of every city I went to for less than $60/night

Nice. I've never really read any bad reviews. When travelling solo or with friends, I'd be more inclined to try it.

Ya, going to Barcelona over New Years. Had a whole apartment for $100 a night for a week right in Gotic.
I have friends use it in Paris so was giving it a shot, as hotels were way smaller or way more expensive, hence why the hotels are lobbying against it.

Also, have you had success churning any cards? I think I'm going to start churning the Citi AA Plat card next year on my wife's account. It seems like you could really rack up some AA points doing this, but I have had other needs for my credit inquiries and didn't want to burn them all for just AA miles. It would also help me simplify her "CC portfolio", so there would be less I have to track. Just thinking out loud...on the keyboard.

Well I just got the AMEX Premier Rewards Gold card and while I know there is no official "spending limit", I also know that there really is based on research. Any way to know what the limit is?
I'm curious how it works in those situations where normally I put $2,000 a month on it, but then if I want to put a $2,000 TV or $5,000 worth of furniture on it in a certain month how they react to that.

If you have a large purchase you can login and indicate the amount and it will tell you if the transaction will be approved.

Haven't gotten that far myself. Had enough cards to apply for towards my goals I hadn't a need yet, but if there are some churn-able cards I'll get to them next year or so if still around. Just sooo many

Haha yep. I used it as my excuse to have a little more time before the real world. Start work in 3 weeks. Growing up is no fun...

I currently have a Delta Skymiles credit card. My wife and I want to take a trip, but don't have quite enough skymiles to get the flights. I want her to sign up for the credit card to get the signing bonus so we'll have enough.
Does she have to get a separate card to get the signing bonus or is there a better way?

She will need her own card if you are trying to get a sign up bonus.

She has to sign up for the card. But remember you cannot combine yalls miles. She will have to have enough in one account to be one ticket and you will have to have enough in your account to book another.
After you book the tickets separately you can call Delta and ask them to attach the PNR#'s to one another

Rented apartment in Barcelona in that same area a few years back. Definitely the way to go. What's funny is European cities have always had people letting out space in their homes or apartments, way prior to the "internet".

Got an offer for the AMEX Platinum. 100,000 points after 3k spend in first 3 months. We are not huge travelers but we are going to Vegas and probably a trip to NY next year, maybe San Francisco.
I am trying to see if it is worth it. I get roughly 1,000 form the 100,000 points, and will get 400 in credits over the first year, (200 credits each calendar year). I will have to pay for my wife to get into the skyclub on our way to Vegas (29 bucks).
Just not sure if the 450 is worth it in the long run or just opt for a different card.

Is that for a personal platinum or the business version? I'm waiting for the business platinum 100k offer to hit me to apply for it.
Those are some flexible points. You can transfer them out to quite a few airlines and if you time the bonus right for the airlines those 100k points could become as much as 140k miles.

If you travel enough it is. Most people look at it as a $250 annual fee because they will waive $200 in fees a year for a single airline.
You can also get the TSA Precheck fee waived as well (another $200)
