So do the rules of supply and demand not exist with this particular industry? The market will correct itself when the supplies are back up once the fad wears off.

Do we know this sure is actually a fad or is it people dropping their illegal dealers to instead buy from "legit" sources?

Maybe. But I can see an argument that with legalization there will be an increase in buyers (users) because the stigma of getting arrested is removed. As wth any product, if there is an increase in demand, there is an increase in price.

True, but this is an easy crop to cultivate and even at much lower market prices there is plenty of money to be made by farmers. This is all assuming government isn't going to decide to overregulate the market. (I know, )

I think everyone knew they didn't have the supply to support the weed rush.

Does the new law legalize the mass production (growing) of MJ?

My perception is mass production, other than for very controlled distribution for medical purposes, is still illegal. But I could be wrong about that.

I have not followed the legalization process in Colorado.

See my above question about legalizing the mass farming of MJ. Perhaps you know the answer.

This can't be happening.

All the druggies on here said the reason legalization was needed was to bring down the cost of all illegal drugs.

Aren't you supposed to be some Money Talk board expert? You have a startling inability to understand basic supply and demand principles if so....

I don't know for sure but I have to think there were a good bit of infrequent smokers who decided to go get them some legal weed.

Wasn't the law passed many months ago? How long does it take to start up the growing process? I would think producers would have geared up their production in anticipation of the law taking effect.

I've never claimed to be that. But thanks for the compliment.

Not at all, that was why I followed up with the comment about the government's influence. From what I've read, an individual can grow 6 plants for personal use. These dispensaries are selling pounds so there has to be a supplier, but who they are I don't know.

I'm still wondering how long an ounce will last the "average" pot smoker. Can anyone give me an idea here?

I don't know if it's average, but I buy an ounce every two weeks.

So this means the average pot smoker (or at least you) will be spending somewhere between $600 & $800 per month on this? Is getting stoned really worth that?

This may shock you, but "because it's illegal" or "I don't want to get arrested" is pretty far down on the list of reasons that the majority of people out there don't do drugs.

I'm in WA State. I pay around $200 an ounce of high quality. Worth it to me, obviously.

That comment was a pre-emptive strike.
