The Playoff Committee will NOT be more favorable to the "best" team versus conference champions.
At least drawing the line at div champs would do wonders.

Trim FBS to 6 X 16team conferences.
One in state tune up foe, one major OOC foe and two rotating cross div foe, then division needs to be a heat for playoff.
If you don't make it out of the div to CCG, there's always next year.
#1 and #2 bye, based on SOS enhanced BCS type grading for playoff.
No committee, no crying, and reg season has value.

You guys thinking this playoff will help LSU are simply delusional. It is intended to PREVENT LSU from being in the hunt.

The purpose of the playoff is to end perennial SEC domination of the top spots when decided by strength of schedule OBJECTIVE computer-influenced formulae. It replaces objective analysis with emotional, "gut" reactions of a group of people. The goal is to place a few conference champs in and allow inclusion of a low ranking but popular conference champ (think Louisville) or a one or two loss independent (think Notre Dame). The only way LSU sniffs a spot in those playoffs is if it wins its conference, and probably needs to be undefeated also.

Agree with th OP that this format will help the power teams in the sEC get a shot at the title as no conference champs. Will place a premium on the OOC games though which should get fans more quality matchups. It won't help every year, but it will help the SEC more often then not.

LSU would actually be hurt by the schedule argument this year as their OOC games were a mess with TCU collapsing and UF was awful. Bama ironically actually ended up with 2 quality OOC wins over Va. Tech & Colorado St..

No, it won't. The committee will be about "fairness." And by fairness, I mean the politically correct meaning of the term. The committee will be there to make sure that each conference and/ or emotionally popular independents are represented. The only SEC team in the playoffs will be the SEC champ. If you think otherwise, you're kidding yourself.

You might be right. But the pundits seem to agree that this year's field, had the playoff been in effect, would have included Auburn and Alabama. That's hypothetical, I know, so maybe it's bogus.

And don't you think there are scenarios in which a conference championship game could complicate things rather than settle them? Say, for example, a two-loss Florida team defeated a one-loss Auburn squad in Atlanta; that could open the door for a team that didn't even win its division — say an 11-1 LSU team whose only defeat was a narrow one at Auburn. (I like that scenario!)

The new system is set up to choose the top 4 teams, regardless of conference affiliation.

That's part of the beauty of it.

You say that now, man.

There was nothing objective that had OSU all set to play FSU in the championship game because they were undefeated until their last game of the season. That would have been almost as bad as ND getting into the game last year.

There are two SEC teams would be in the four teams this year. If, given the same type SEC season as this past one, there are not two next year, then college football has fricked up again and badly.
