That is excellent. You are going to really enjoy that lifestyle. I'm jelly.

As somebody else stated, If my wife ever left me, I would go for that lifestyle.

Did you order it or build it? I've been lookin at this stuff, I'm really into the small house, cabin in the woods, living off the land.

Had it built. I wanted to build an earth bag home and still plan to in the future, but for this I went and had it customized and built for me.

I've been looking at buying a cabin somewhere around 400-700 sq. ft. but building is looking more attractive.

Also looking at yurts.

I like the conestoga cabins outdoorsman, if I were to get one.

I know someone who built a one room cabin. He even cut the trees and everything.

If I went this route, I'd go with a yurt.

My wife and I lived in one of these one summer, and were very comfortable.

Had a living area with bed, small kitchen, small bathroom and a loft.

I'd want a little larger, but doesn't need to be much.

Hoping to start on my getaway fairly soon. Building riverfront so it'll have to be elevated 8-10 ft. Wondering how I should go about electricity, septic, water etc. Can probably get electric run to it pretty easily. I want a simple plan I can build myself or at least do as much as I have time for. Will probably start a thread to let the OB help me design and deck out.

Tell me about the foundation/base.

I can see you poured a slab. But tell me about the building base. Did you just lay out 4x4's and build atop the 4x4's?

Is the structure secured to the slab or just gravity held?

Is there a perimeter beam in the slab or is it just an even layer of concrete?

Slightly OT per the homestead, but I'm now trying to decide on guardian of the yard. I think I've narrowed it down to two breeds:

The Neapolitan:
Look at this little walrus looking nugget

Or, from Turner and Hooch, the Dogue De Bordeaux

Yes, I like big, ugly dogs, but help me decide

They're both Mastiffs

Neapolitan is the Italian Mastiff and the Bordeaux is the French Mastiff
