if I'm sitting in the grandstand i can tell one area is artificial and one isnt without any trouble at all.
Even if it's true, why is this an issue? Is artificial turf some type of stigma?

quote:i highly doubt there are as many pipes down there that would prevent a small foundation to be constructed there. hell there's a small foundation there holding up the existing batters eye.
There are natural gas pipes that run near or in the spot where the batters eye is. They would not be able to go deep enough for something new.

To hell with looks.
I worry / wonder what it will be like for a right / left fielder to run full speed on grass to get to a ball in foul territory, and then try to stop on a completely different surface.
Looks don't matter at all compared to player safety concerns.

You serious clark? I guess you don't remember Ty Ross headbutting a wall after busting his arse on the rubber surface

I'm a little confused...
Is it just the rubber warning track being replaced by turf, or is all of foul territory being replaced?

All of foul territory. Everything outside of the foul lines.

Better than the entire field being turf

I'm not in love with this idea. It's not like the foul territory grass was in poor shape. Clearly, it could be maintained. I guess I'll wait and see what it looks like, but I imagine it will come across tacky. Baseball is played on grass and foul territory is part of the playing field.

Les has completely lost control of the grounds crew.

quote:Yeah, it was in the foul area near the grandstand. That area was constantly having to be re-sodded in patches during the early months of the season. You could see the new strips of sod running parallel to the foul lines.
It's not like the foul territory grass was in poor shape.
And the grounds crew also resorted to spraying a green dye on the dead grass areas.
Speaking of turf grass, what former LSU pitcher came to LSU mainly because LSU offered a major in Turf Grass Management? (I am not making this up. This was back during Laval's time.) Hint: He was a right handed submarine delivery pitcher.
For 10 points extra credit, what state was that player from?
