I just want to bump this to celebrate locking down the Chase Ink Plus today.

Feels fricking awesome

Congrats.
Ink plus pays for itself with the
5x bonuses. The club passes are great for overseas travel. I will likely switch to the non fee version before it applies.

As noted above, I'm working on making the ink plus real valuable with opening up my own office supplies store. Setting up my LLC this week and contacted some prepaid vendors :).

Keep us updated on that. I hope it works besides the fact it's creative and entertaining.

I generally spend right under my income on my Amex with no manufactured spending... But that is because I get to put all my work expenses on my card and just get reimbursed

That should be fine. Their big thing is making sure you can pay them back, so if you can document that a substantial amount of your spend is reimbursable business expense I would think passing a financial review wouldn't be hard

I picked up some office supplies at Office Depot today and they had a family dollar next door, so I figured I'd stop in to see if they had the VRs in stock. They did. Cashier said "ooohh Honey, I don't think that regista eva seen a $500 gift card transaction"...And it still hasn't . Denied. Oh well.

Planning on doing an apporama next month. First one. Think I'm going to do:

Citi® Hilton HHonors™ Reserve Card - I'll probably keep this card. Gold status, 2 free weekend nights at any of their properties + 1 free weekend night w/ $10k spend annually. That'll pay for itself.

Amex SPG Business - 25k signup + 5k referral on my wife's card.

Chase IHG - 80k offer + 1 free night annually $49 fee. Keeper as well.

Would like to do another, but not sure which one. Maybe the Frontier Airlines World MasterCard through Barclays. $69 fee not waived for first year, but it will pay for 2 RTs MSY-CEZ which is usually ~$400/flight.

A lot of people are trying for the Barlcays US Airways card since it won't be available much longer. Perhaps that is one to put on your radar since it is time sensitive?

I can't find where it offers this perk, but I have the United Explorer card that offers the club access as well.

If you utilize the Chase Freedom you'll need to keep the Preferred, so you can transfer to ultimate rewards. Definitely worth that alone. Don't forget you can book your flights on ultimate rewards and receive 20% discount.

If you are travelling with your spouse I'd look at getting the Explorer card if you're flying United.

Seems to be a lot of negativity about the united devaluation, but I fly coach almost exclusively(unfortunately) and occasionally spring for the upgrade if available. There isn't much change to coach award tickets. The Explorer card pays for itself just for the free checked bags on 1 RT w/ a companion.

I received almost 60k points with the United Explorer card after in bank signup with almost no effort. That's a free RT to Europe w/ 2 open jaws and stopover(if you don't understand what that means, you need to). I just have to sit in the back of the plane with the rest of the poors . I'm ok with it.

You can transfer those Chase Sapphire points to United miles and just about have enough for 2 RT tickets to Europe.

I got an email for a Hilton HHonors Surpass Card. I'm already Gold Status (thanks SlickDeals) although I've never even used my account. I'd like to get a card that goes towards airline miles as my next one though.

Teddy is pretty knowledgable with a lot of the cards so maybe he can help a bit more, but the key is understanding what you want to be able to do.

Where do you want to go?
How do you want to fly(first/business or coach)?
Do you want to fly free on domestic frequently or are you just trying to do big rewards on transcontinental trips?
And what is your primary departure city?

Understanding these things and obtaining points on credit cards is essential. No point in racking up on points that you can't efficiently utilize.

I came out of college with zero credit and I immediately undertook a car loan with my dad as a co signor. Got my first credit card with Discover because they will pretty much accept anyone. Starting credit limit of about $750. Been paying it off every month along with my car note and that has really done wonders for my credit. Applied for the Chase Sapphire Preferred this evening and got approved instantly! Feels damn good. I know Discover is not the ideal card to go with but you do what you can and I have been prompt with payments and they show their appreciation by granting increases to my credit limit all the time. I will eventually cancel that card in favor of a more selective card company, but Discover took care of me when I needed it as a grad fresh out of college. Kudos to them for that.

Never cancel your 1st card. Keep it in your sock drawer and use it once every 4-6 months.

Been killing the credit card companies this year since you started posting deals. My next victim needs to be a hotel rewards card. I'm already flying free for a looong time. I usually stay at Hampton Inn on my work trips so if you come across a good one, let me know.
