Austin Rivers. He's clearly over with the fans and at this point he's clearly better than Brian Roberts.

In your opinion

I really like Rivers and hope he steps up and grab the backup pg spot.

Rivers needs to have more confidence in his offensive game. I think the struggles have made him second guess his shooting opportunities.

Tonight he had a nice dribble drive and lay up but the refs said he traveled. I thought it was a bad call by the refs

You do realize that you are literally the only person that cares about this enough to "get ugly" over it, right? The rest of us either figure we'll have to wait to see what he becomes, or have already moved on.

Now hold on there hoss, unless LasVegasBandit is following through on his self imposed ban from this board. You're going to have to recalculate that figure.

This and other message boards are the canary in the coal mine of the fan base. We are the hardcore fans and we generally shape the discussion that people have about the Pelicans. You're the only person here going crazy over this, I seriously doubt that the casual fans, who are by definition casual, feel more passionately about the Rivers issue than the PT and PR do.

I think what you're experiencing is confirmation bias, you're seeing what you want to see. If there was more support behind Rivers and we didn't see here we'd definitely see it on Twitter. I scan Pelicans related tweets far more often than I care to admit and Rivers rarely comes up at all, certainly not in a Marcus Thornton 2.0 context. I just did a twitter search on Austin Rivers and there really are not many "I'm pissed Austin isn't playing more" tweets. There are some, but most of them are a mix of "he should have stayed in school longer", "he's a bust", "Duke vs. UNC", or "He's looking good with the second unit". There certainly is a desire to see him play more by many, but hardly anyone is emotionally invested on a similar level as you.

What's weird about this post is that Rivers played in the 2nd half! Monty went with Roberts and had no intention of getting Rivers up. Yet, he saw that Roberts was awful and ADJUSTED with Rivers.

Rivers still was fairly shaky, but he needs more playing time. His energy and length fit what this team wants/needs.

I know this is hard to believe based on how self-important you view yourself, but the majority of the butts actually in the seats do not post regularly on this site. The cheers for the kid in that arena are all the confirmation one needs to know that the frustration is building. The only reason you don't see it on the boards is because the board "savants" don't have any tangible evidence to point to as to why Rivers should be playing, and the backup PG position is nowhere near as important as the 48 SG minutes going to Beli/Green.

I, for the life of me, will never understand why people defend Monty tooth-and-nail, which is essentially what you're doing. Why else would you come on this thread and disagree with me?

Roberts is a much better shooter, although somewhat streaky. He's also a better ball handler and passer. When his offense is going, he provides a huge spark off the bench. That said his offense struggled the last couple games.

Rivers is a much better defender and more aggressive with the ball. He's still struggling with his shot and not sure if his passing is good enough for him to take a stranglehold on the backup pg spot. He still has the tendency to get himself in trouble with the ball in his hands.

Those 2 will likely spilt playing time all year depending on how Roberts is shooting the ball.

Dude no. This board is full of obnoxious know-it-alls that drive away other fans. I work with about 4 other guys that talk hornets/pelicans nonstop throughout the season, and I am the only one that is even registered to a message board. If you guys would let go of this mentality, that you are the most "hardcore" and knowledgeable fans, you might get a few more posters over here and have some decent discussion, rather than just a bunch of fools with nothing better to do than play with the ESPN trade machine. Believe it or not, the Pelicans are being discussed outside the Internet.

LSU fans always cheered extremely loudly when Charlie Thompson played. The derp is strong with this one.

Rivers has one decent game and you're ready to declare him better than a guy who CLEARLY outplayed him for over an entire season. If you derp it, they will come.

To what extent? The general public's biggest discussion has been about the rebrand itself.

Hell I was on a skype conference call with some Oregon banking bigwigs last week while wearing a Pelicans polo and wanted to jump through the screen and lay the smack down because they kept making fun of Pierre.

Yes. Roberts is better with the ball in his hands. But if they've got Morrow and Anderson on the floor with Evans, some of those concerns are alleviated and I think his defensive ability/energy becomes more important. This team really doesn't want to play defense consistently, Rivers will work his arse off on that end.

Rivers also fits better with the offense we've seen more of recently. Less reliant on one guy to create everything, more side to side action, attack the rim in one on one situations, etc

For me it just comes down to Rivers makes shite happen- good and bad. I don't think you bury Roberts at all. Just Rivers deserves some more consideration for what he can bring, not because of his pedigree or draft slot or fan rumblings in the arena.
