All I can figure is that looking forward Chavis thinks the OTHER young LB's will shin and he will not be needed at LB as much and we can let him loose as a killer DE which chavis think we might be lacking.

As much talk as the LB's get which is deserved the DLine also had its problems. Not with lack of decent players, heck all 4 starters were decent. But you don't get championships with just a decent defensive line. It is almost a must to have a animal/beast on the DLine if you want a ring.

why must Chavis have his way?

surely you can't be serious. Ok, let's not let our DC determine who plays and let you do it. that would make us all feel very good.

I was kidding but I would like to see Beckwith get a shot a MLB. He can't be worse. He would have more upside.

I can't wait to get Clifton Garrett on campus, but I disagree with people wanting to place him right to MLB. IMO putting him at OLB 6'2 224, and Beckwith at MLB 6'3 245 would be way better as you get more stopping power from your LB crew. With Kwon already good in space and possibly the best tackler on D, the LBs could be a strength next year instead of liability.

We'll have Bower, Hunter, Allen, Clark, Neal Godchaux, and hopefully Willis at DE (Godchaux and Willis could move inside) which means move our freaking big arse highly recruited 4 star linebacker, to linebacker. We need all the hitting power we can get on defense.

Paris next year should definitely get a spot at the safety position and Jefferson too. We need athletes and hitting power (good tackling), and these guys can provide it. Both run low 4.4s and I think Paris actually runs a sub 4.4.

Beckwith is probably a 3 year player anyway so I doubt it matters we burned his redshirt.

I don't know if people realized this, but Montgomery, Mingo, Logan, and Minter were here for four years. Miles is keeping guys here, but how many people wnt to stay 5 years in college when they can make millions? Beckwith will be here 3 years unless he gets a high round grade.

With the stud play we're receiving from Welter and Barrow, they decided to move him to DE where we're really thin with Rasco, Allen, Hunter, Neal, Maclin, Frank Herron, Tashawn Bower, and Beckwith etc.

I don't want to bash welter. I'm sure he's a good kid.

But seriously, go watch the bama game when he's in if you can stomach it.

He's really just a lost puppy out there.

I'm not a welter fan. With that said, at least you noticed him out there. Lamar, never noticed him out there and he alternated series with welter.

second, I'm not sure welter or the lbs are as bad as they appear this year. The defensive line is not eating up blockers allowing them to run free. The o-line of the other team is getting to our second level. speaks of poor d.l. play. People are having a hard time accepting a.j. and e.f. are as bad as the linebackers.

The deficiencies at linebacker although not the sole issue for the front seven's woes lie mostly with the play of Barrow and Welter from a standpoint of simply making plays. What do I mean?

For instance, Barrow in 2012 made as many solo tackles 52 as he made assisted tackles. He was making defensive stops.

This season so far, Barrow has made 18 solo tackles versus 57 assisted tackles and 7.5 tackles for loss. He's not making the play as much even though he stayed in the same position.

Welter is not fairing much better at 18 solos to 41 assisted tackles. That being said he could go Minter on us next season because his numbers are in-line with Minter's with his first season of extensive play.

Kwon, however for the second year in a row has made nearly as many solo tackles 25 as assisted tackles 31 this year so far and leads the linebackers in tackles for loss at 6.5 by a +3 margin as the youngest one.

I love how everyone can start threads bashing him but when an Anthony Johnson sucks thread comes up chicken stickies a thread saying anyone will be banned for talking bad about players.

I'd love to see Ronnie turn into a nice option for us at MLB

If not middle line backer, hopefully a serviceable outside backer or D end

Someone in an earlier thread brought up the comparison vis-a-vis statistics.

I'm sorry, but I don't care that Minter & Welter had similar tackle totals. I think a more honest assessment would be where the tackles were made relative to the line of scrimmage. That's not even taking into account the obvious whiffs/bad angles/too slow to get there moments that Welter had nearly every game.
