But to say that the city isn't a unique place in the American landscape is flat out wrong
If you are a Native and doubt the truth of this, try moving away. Try a place like Iowa or anywhere in the Midwest. Pure culture shock.

The job sites like indeed are a barren wasteland of garbage for NOLA. There's not much

People who make money knowing about business disagree with you. The recovery is far from assured or finished, but undeniably in a better position than any time in recent history.

re: Jessica Lange, on filming "American Horror Story" in New Orleans

A lot of those Forbes articles are poorly written and full of hyperbole. This one for example is just complete bullshite:

LINK

quote:

New Orleans is at the forefront of video game development, putting the fun-loving city in competition with major gaming hotspots like Austin, San Francisco, Toronto, and Quebec.

There is one tiny, minuscule little game studio in NOLA that's barely even worth mentioning. The quoted claim is just absurd.

I'm not getting into a big argument about the economic condition of NOLA on here because I'm no expert. I do know that there are hardly any jobs ever posted on the popular job sites. I also know that a lot of those Forbes articles are completely worthless

And what was this even supposed to mean in regards to my post? Your links disagree with me that there are few jobs listed for NOLA on indeed? Are you drunk right now, or do you just enjoy playing a belligerent idiot on the internet?

I'm not the one who is being belligerent. You are the one arguing that one website's job listings signify that the ecomomic outlook of New Orleans is terrible. Just about every economic indicator proves you wrong. Like I said previously, the job is not done but the city is at its best in many years economically and culturally. In regards to your post it means you are full of merde.

Real estate prices are up in the marigny bro!

Lets just say there is a reason Austin is in time magazine and there is a reason the head coach of.the new Orleans saints commutes from dallas

You can keep arguing about demographics, even though I didn't say one word about it. No one is moving their family to NOLA. NOLA isn't a step up from most places. And if I were some kind of dry wall person, then what? Would that make my points somehow unvalid? As it stands I work for a company that was looking to move to a new city, and New Orleans wasn't even considered for exactly the reasons I gave you. Nothing has changed with the crime at all. There are no real businesses here. So enjoy your low quality of life and when you pull your head out of your ass, and wonder why everyone is gone, we went somewhere that doesn't boast about being last in every category and first in crime.

New Orleans is charming because it had culture, it was great. It still has a lot going for it, but people don't want to move here and I certainly don't mind moving elsewhere.

You're a rather foul minded youngster, aren't you?

The data proves you utterly incorrect about people not moving to New Orleans. Wanna make some sort of wager, hotshot?

As far as Texas is concerned, Houston and Dallas have some things going for them, of course because of their sheer size and capital investment. By I can't imagine wanting to actually live in either one

I love living in Dallas now that I no longer live in Uptown with all its damn yuppies and credit card millionaires.

Lower Greenville FTW

My brother loved living in NOLA when he was at Tulane. I always had a great time when I'd come to visit. Even got me some Slidell booty. (and yes I got checked afterwards and was clean )

Foul minded? I've been all over the world. New Orleans is special to me, but it isn't special to your average person. Highest murder rate in the us. Overly high percentage of people on public assistance. I said families weren't moving here, I didn't say people. So tell me, exactly what kind of people are moving here? Alright! Another medical facility? Our economy rocks. Ooh, another casino

How many decrepit liquor stores are on canal st alone very cosmopolitan. New Orleans is better? Slightly, but that doesn't say much when you start from the bottom, and quite frankly the backwards arse local population (5th generation brah!) is precisely why it will continue to be marginally better than St. Louis and Indianapolis. Anytime you mention a problem, people plug their ears and start hurling insults.

NOLA simply cannot compete with dallas, Austin, Phoenix, the Bay Area, Portland, Seattle, New York, Boston, Chicago (crime shithole too), Miami, etc

So link all the forbes articles you want, then go read the census data and realize that you've been fed a spoonful of bull shite.

So many directions to go with this one, but I'll just let lay. . .

Actually, if you want to be realistic, the medical and bio-tech industry is growing and will substantially increase over the next five years.

Post-K, amazingly enough, there have been small tech oriented businesses relocate to N.O. and/or start up here. You can actually find the data if you look (But clearly Forbes, Bloomberg, etc., are just making up stories about N.O, right? )

Are you actually oblivious to the renovations actually completed, underway and in the planning stage for the CBD, including Canal St.

I'll get to the point. N.O. was in shitty shape in the early 2000's and had in intermittent to steady decline since the '70's. It is in the early stages of a remarkable comeback by any objective measure (other than black on black crime).

It seems to me that you're negative because you don't see a complete 180 happen immediately. That's not remotely realistic. It take years of change. What's important is constant improvement.

You also seem to have such a fixed, intransigent view of city government and the outdated, exaggerated influence "Uptown business and culture" that it skews your view of reality. You can't see things through a clear lens.

I moved here a long time ago to begin my professional life, got fed up and moved away. But then we returned, and I've never seen the city more interesting and alive in the 33 years I've lived here.

Actually, in your case, the reverse is true. Your disdain for the city is so deep and ingrained, you can't stand positive comments by others, whether they be locals or visitors.

Are you an expert in New Orleans economics? If so, enlighten us with your own thoughts and not links to Forbes articles.

I love this about the Internet. Link a few online articles and now you're an expert and your position is incontrovertible.

Is it your position that the N.O. economy has not improved in the last five years? Is it your position that there has not been an influx of younger professionals in the last five years? Who is living in the thousand new units of upscale housing created in the downtown area (don't make the mistake of tossing out the subsidized housing /Section 8 argument, I'm ready for it in spades )

Improved from what. You know, you go on thinking everything is great. That's what they've done for the last 60 years and that worked out.

yeah other than the 400 annual murders. That iphone repair shop on oak st is really helping the tech industry boom here : you talk about renovations, everytime they want to pump money to renovate rampart, etc...the preservationist come out of the woodwork. So they're renovating the river walk mall, ooh. Remarkable recovery.

I am no economic expert, but I do participate and make a living in the real estate sales and investment market in the Metro area as well as having lived through regentrification of neighborhoods and areas in NYC and London. I've lived through it there and I'm living through it here. It is palpable and the numbers agree with me...to say otherwise is just silly and smacks of petty, ingrained emotion. No one is arguing that there is no progress to be made with crime and infrastructure , but to dismiss what is happening makes no sense and denotes cognitive dissonance. All this crap because Jessica Lange said something nice about New Orleans. You haters are small.
