Rice and Johnson are very different receivers. Rice routinely turned 8 yard slants into 40 yard gains. CJ can out duel double teams on jump balls.

Rice maximized every gift he had through hard work, CJ is a natural.

Deion could and I think some Seattle DBs could as well...Tillman LA native for the Bears plays CJ well also

Deion couldn't shut down Keith Poole.

He was a good DB, and a great return man. His speed was his best asset. He would get burned and catch the WR in about 15 yards.

I think it's a case of the physical evolution of the league. If you sent a mid-level modern LT back in time 30 years, he'd be a more effective blocker than Anthony Munoz. Does than make him "better" than Munoz?

Calvin Johnson is more physically evolved than Rice and plays against corners who are faster, more agile, and hit harder, but Rice was better relative to the game of the time.

Yeah biggest issue would be Deion trying to tackle him

Biggest obstacle would be Calvin creating space. Primetime was a fricking glove in coverage.

ETA: His ball skills were off the charts too

Also Rice said that he was never that great of an athlete compared to everyone else. He said that he great bc he ran great routes. From Jerry rice himself

Also, Rice had Steve Young and Joe Montana throwing to him as compared to Megatron's QB.

Jerry is correct. Deion would have shut down Megatron.

Think about how much credit Deion gets as being the best cover corner in the history of the sport. And then realize that he's actually underrated.

He was that good.

A good DB, huh?

Would you say Lebron is a good basketball player? What about Nadal, do you think he's good at tennis?

You mean the QB who got him the ball 122 times for 1964 yards last year?

It sure would be fun watching Sanders "tackle" Megatron after a catch.

Yet Megatron is much faster than Rice. The more you know......

I do agree Megatron is a completely different receiver than Rice. Rice relied on his incredible route running and hands. Megatron relies on his ridiculous mixture of speed and size. Rice played with 2 of the best qbs ever throwing to him and Megatron is in an offense that throws a lot. There is too many unknowns to clearly say 1 is clearly better than the other.

It pains me to say this, because Rice is my favorite player of all time, but if I had to choose 1 to build my team around, I'm taking Megatron. You could teach catching and routing running, you can't teach size and speed.

Would deion be able or willing to tackle him once? No way deion's soft release would win out against megatron. This would be embarrassing in my opinion and deion was great, but not physical enough to win this matchup.

It sure would be fun watching Megatron chase after Sanders after the Int.
