Truth, people don't take care of their games 
I also checked, couldn't find Legend of Legaia or Breath of Fire 3, I do still have Lunar: Silver Star Story and Alundra (a Zeldaesque PS1 game, that I'll put up there as being one of the hardest games ever, I'm talking Dark Souls hard)

Dang man, that's unfortunate. I have a ton of games I bought from eBay that are in great condition. If they have some bad scratches, I just take them to my local Play-N-Trade to get them repaired.
I've gotten lucky with people posting items and not knowing what they have.

Meh, still waiting on my FF XIII to be delivered. Normally gamestop will have my game to me in 3 days, tops.

For me, I think it's Zidane, Tidus/Yuna, and Lightning. You have a very good case for Yuna on FFX, but Tidus is actually important to the overall story that he can't be pushed aside like Vaan.

I meant the original version on PS1.. at a reasonable price.. I was entirely unaware of that remake though... and I just purchased it. Thanks for the link!

I found it on clearance at Target for 8 bucks and loved it. Great side quests. And, hey, Cloud!

Every FF spinoff on a handheld was pretty great. Revenant Wings, Crisis Core, Dissidia, A2, Rings of Fate were all very good.

I played Lunar on the PS1, I remember it being pretty damn good.

I think it is the longest FF game. I have heard it is between 60-100 hours. I never really got very far but I don't have a way to play it anymore because I don't have a ps2 anymore.
