Also, y'all have me wanting to either play VIII or XII right now. I just finished X and VII a few weeks ago when I was fricking around.

I didn't like either of those

Actually 8 was ok. But I don't think I have any desire to replay that one. Certain aspects of the story were interesting which was the only thing that kept me playing that game

I played 12 when I was young when it came out and I just remember not liking anything about it.

XII is probably my favorite because if the mechanics and the largest amount of side quest at the time. All the hunts, marks, espers, and the sheer difficulty when it comes to the ultimate weapons. Plus there's the OP bosses that you have to actually walk away and come back to fight because you can't beat them in one sitting.

Also the story and environment reminds me of Star Wars.

I played it only about 5 hours in when i was little so I need to give it another shot today to be fair before i criticize it

I know you said you were between playing 8 and 12, but you should give FF9 and 6 a shot if you haven't played those

I've never beaten this one. My save file right now is at the Atma Weapon on the Floating Continent and he wrecks my shite.

I guess I've always been a Gamefaqs guy. But when I was in middle school it was Happy Puppy and CheatCC. That and whoever had the latest issue of tips and trick you get out pencil and paper.

Gamesages for me. They became IGN though.

I remember getting destroyed just by the enemies leading up to him.

It took me half a dozen attempts before i finally beat him and I barely did

Which final fantasy games out of 1-5 would you recommend if you had to pick the better ones.

And are the original versions good or should i look into those nintendo DS remakes

They are all great in my opinion, but 1 (especially the remake) and 5 we're some of the best.

Yeah V is suppose to be the best out of the first five. Out of III or IV I choose IV. III fun but is annoying as hell. IV I've played through about 3 times and only 1 1/2 for III. And yes get the DS/GBA versions.

Been meaning to get V just never got around to it.

The early releases really confuse me. Obviously 2 and 3 on the SNES is 4 and 6 on the PS1. But I'm not sure where 1 and 2 on the PS1(Final Fantasy Origins) factor into the timeline of releases.

Square sucked at localizing things. FFII&III are 4 and 6 in the series (they did it this way to make gamers think they didn't miss out on other games). The actual FF2, 3, and 5 did not come the States until included in PS1 re-releases.

There's only 2 remakes (3 and 4). There's a FF1 and 2 remakes on PSP, which are the best versions. FF5 for iOS is only updated version out there. Next best is either GBA or PS1.

FF1, was on the NES, released, 4 light warriors, little story, hard as shite, mostly you wander around completely fricking lost, great game, felt a real sense of accomplishment when I beat it

FF2, released in north america FFIV, if I remember this is the first one to introduce jobs for characters

FF3, north american FFVI, never played this one

FF4, released on the SNES as FFII, one of my favorites, you get to go the moon, good story as well, lots of characters, including a "spoony bard"

FF5, I know absolutely nothing about this one

FF6, released on SNES as FFIII, this has to be the best one, amazing story, opera scene, awesome antagonists, a must play

FF7, PS1, also a must play, great story, amazing game play

FF Tactics, PS1, a definite departure from the originals in terms of gameplay. Lots of plot twists. My all time favorite. Only thing I didn't like was the main character could not become a heavenly knight.

After Tactics my FF playing got a little sketchy.

FF9, PS1, I always liked this one, even though it didn't seem to get a whole lot of publicity.

FFXII, PS2, this shite was bad, and I mean bad, made me glad that most of the previous main characters never spoke. Never beat it, never wanted to beat it, by the end I did not care

Why all the hate for XII? Also it seems like everyone that hates it never finished it. If you didn't finish it how do you know if you hate it?

For some reason I feel like I need to like this series even though I have very few found memories of it. (I don't like it)

hate for XII

The gameplay mostly, I hated that the developers did away with the random battles, did not like the new limit breaker system, license board, and the story seemed convoluted at times. I would also get tired of fighting some of the battles, some seemed to take FOREVER, the end being one of these, so I just got tired and gave up.
