I can't see there being much, if any, return on Griffin. I think the staff just really likes him, and hope he can at the very least be the next Chase Daniel.

He will be an above ave backup, but not the Bree's replacement for the future.

No team out there is giving anything for Ryan Griffin

I wouldnt be so sure. There a lot of teams needing QB's and obviously there are some that see his worth

Ryan Griffin gets more chicks at Lucy's than Lance Moore, Jason Smith, and Jeremy Shockey circa 2008 combined.

It's amazing that in this day and age, that a talking K-9 from Rhode Island can some day become an NFL QB.

This is just so awful. Not only did you get the dog's name wrong, but it's just a horrible, horrible joke on top of that. I mean, not even almost a little bit funny.

Hate to waste a roster spot on a 3rd string project, but I guess the coaches see some potential in him.

Maybe we're dangling McKown for the rams, he's worth draft pick

Here is the link.. They did it so they could protect him from being acquired by the Rams.

If I understand it correctly, the Saints hold his rights and if he hadn't actually signed anything with another team then they can still promote him.

They must have caught wind of it and signed him before he could leave.

Edit:
In other words, he had no choice in the matter.

Nobody gets more chicks than Jason Smith.

I like Griffin more than most on here, but I don't see him as a Brees replacement. He's one of those high quality back ups that can win you a few games if you need, but not a legit face of the franchise QBs. Similar to a Tony Romo.

There are some really good QBs in the draft this year. I'd like the Saints to take a 2nd or 3rd rounder and develop him.

The teams have to notify the league when they are planning on signing a practice squad player from another team. The league then sends a memo to the player's current team giving them a chance to protect him. This rule allows for teams to not tamper with players who are signed to practice squads and try to sign players to gain a competitive edge if they are playing each other in the near future. The league views the teams that win the FA battle after the draft the sole owner of the player's rights until they decline to sing him to the active roster once interest from other teams becomes clear.

Griffin could have signed with the Rams....the Saints couldn't block that.
Griffin chose Saints. Smart move for his long term future, even though he'd get more playing time right now with the Rams.

For some reason, I thought Brian's gay brother was Ryan, but it's Jasper.

They are given a chance to sign the player...technically that is a chance to block it...

Griffin could still have picked the Rams.

Yes, but Griffin could have refused. He could have gone to St. Louis. He chose to stay and take the Saints offer, whatever it was.

That is why I said given the chance to sign the player...I never said if he wanted to play for the Rams he would not have been able to.
