Just no way man. I like both of those places, but comparing them to Clancy's is a no shot. And no Gautreau's on your list is kind of funny. It has been the most consistently great restaurant in New Orleans for 20 years.
My last meal is at the bar at Clancy's with Garth serving me.
Shrimp remoulade, best version in town and history for that matter.
Sweetbreads
Crab Salad
Smoked softshell crab
Veal Annunciation
Peppermint ice cream, or banana if they have it
Lemon icebox pie
Multiple bottles of whatever Cabernet Garth suggests.
Cognac
Coroners Office. Close the coffin.
They have the best wine list in town for the value, perhaps the country. It is a truly great place. Plus, I'll know like 3/4 of the people there.

Maybe soon depending on my diagnosis in the next week.

I've never been to a "last meal" but I'm down to try it.

It's purely a matter of my personal tastes.

And no Gautreau's
I have never been to Gautreau's, I actually considered listing it but felt the need for honesty.
I will be going soon.
As for Clancy's, it's doesn't have many items on the menu that I "need" to try/have. It's got some really great dishes but they don't necessarily speak to me.
Garth is a beast. I went a week or two ago and he set me up with some major league scotch. I could have had that for dinner and been very content.
I'll throw down on the last meal. Sounds like my kind of event.

Bayona
I would have to think about it a little more. That's off the top of my head.
My list is not static and changes from time to time. But I'd substitute Lilette and Gautreau's for Bayona and Coquette (both of which I like, btw).
Oh, and good luck today, glass.

Thanks. I'll be at Finn's around 1:00-1:15. Big Champions League match versus Dortmund.

Glass,
Please don't be offended by my question.
As an outsider, would this be a reason to have second thoughts about going to a place? Not because of Glass of course, but because it seems to be very much an insider crowd.
This is an honest question. ATL metro area has grown from about 1 million to 6 million since I have lived here, so it is such a different place than NOLA, which seems to be so much more closed.
Not saying it is better, just different, so I don't have the perspective of a NOLA person.

Not at all.

I've been there. When I called for reservations, I'd expect the gal on the phone could tell I wasn't an Uptown local...just a hunch on my part. I got a table upstairs, not bad at all,...didn't ask for downstairs though I am fully aware they will seat rednecks downstairs...some of my Mecca buddies were in the week before me (and I'll bet they scared the shite out of the locals...I saw party pics).
I had great service. Tipped the staff well. It's a fine place wheather you walk two blocks from home or drive 300 miles to get there.

And, the place executes some classic Nola cusine very well. I appreciate that. It's what I prefer in Nola. I don't want some tatted up greaseball SOB trying to convince my to pay top dollar for some fricked up bullshite that doesn't suit my taste.

In a somewhat related question, how do you feel when they won't seat you until your entire party is there?

I've had that occur elsewhere...I don't understand the concept. But, I don't get fightin' mad over it.

quote:Agreed. It's just bizarre. I understand it might cause the waiter to make a few more trips back and forth to the table but in that time those seated could be ordering more drinks or apps. In the time it took my slow parents to walk down the block I could have downed one already. Oh well.
