That said, can you make the argument that Stamkos hasn't had the talent around him that the Capitals have?

Sure, but he did have Marty St. Louis who is pretty darn good. And they've had a better defensive system. I think it's stupid to call Stamkos a coach killer or a bad player, but I do think if you use the criteria to criticize Ovi and apply them to Stamkos... Stamkos comes off even worse than Ovi. But no one cares Stamkos doesn't play defense because... well, why the hell would you? He's an amazing offensive talent.

Really, the Bolts only problem has been terrible goaltending, and the Caps have been pretty erratic as well (though not nearly as bad). Bishop has seemingly solved that issue.

Trotz will not return as Predators coach.

It's time for a change, but still weird to see him go. The only coach the franchise has ever had.

Yeah, I mean just an outisider's opinion but he was never given much to work with in terms of scoring. Great defense, if Rinne wasn't injured for like 1/2 a season and they made the playoffs would he still be the coach? Who knows. If only Radulov, Erat, and the Kostitsyns would have stuck around. Or maybe if they just hadn't gone out drinking the night before a playoff game

What must be really frustrating for Nashville fans is Trotz (as I understand it) was on thin ice for the entire year....and in the last set of games they were putting up a lot of points.

Oh well.

I would strangle a puppy for Trotz to coach the Caps.

yeah...he's always done a lot with very little. he will no doubt find another job very quickly, and be successful wherever it is.

Whatever happened to firewagon hockey

By the way - most puzzling trade of the year: Del Zotto (offensive Dman that will kill you with boneheaded plays) for Klein (from what I can tell, a guy that won't kill you but won't do anything special either).

Nashville's biggest need was offensive scoring. Would have thought they would have wanted someone like Zuccarello.

Trotz is apparently moving to another job with the Preds.

I love firewagon hockey, but Trotz is an experienced NHL vet who clearly understands advanced metrics. I think part of the Preds' defensive style is by necessity. He's a guy that knows how to get the most out of his assets. For example, Erat was a far better offensive threat in Nashville than Washington.

yeah, no idea why Poile did that one, he has always been pretty damn good in the transaction dept. Forsberg for Erat, Jarnkrok and a 2nd for Legwand.

he's been offered a job in hockey ops apparently, but nothing yet on if he'll take it.

Yeah, forgot about Marty.

Fair point.

Also a fair point, which is the way that Ovechkin should play.

I would also argue that Washington has a much more entrenched fan base that cares.

Besides, there are people like me that are NY Rangers fans that like to get caps fans riled up by ragging on Ovechkin

Sure. and the reason I really like that Holtby gif is because he's laying out Callahan. There's ragging on each other because that's what rivals do, but when you actually start taking your trash talk seriously as real analysis... then you're just a moron.

Though I admit I'm probably rooting for the Rags this year in the East due to lack of options. OK, C-bus, but that won't last too long, right?

The Habs are the 5 now correct? The Stars are the 7 in the West?

I hate the fact that the Habs and Bruins can match up in the semi's. It would be a war if it was in the Finals. But it is better than the past two times in first round. I am just hoping CP31 doesn't CP31 and plays like he did in Sochi.

Do we have a playoffs thread or will this have to work?

Stars doing work, tying the score in game two. If they finish out strong, the series will be tied.
