Bill Simmons would go well with Charles Barkley. He should move to TNT

Regardless of the merits of the programming decision, it's pretty impressive that Simmons went from a blogger to pretty much owning ESPN in the span of a decade.

It pays to know your Karate Kid and Rocky III trivia, kids!

I don't know if the new show will be any good, but it'll be more interesting if Simmons is the main force behind it. Magic and Wilbon just sucked off all the players bc they were all boys. Simmons and Collins might not be as charismatic as Barkley but they'll call it like they see it and they're both huge nba junkies

Simmons and Jalen are great. Build around a core of that and you could have an Emmy winner in a few short seasons.

My problem with Simmons is that he is the uber metrics disciple. All of his arguments are built around metrics and when they don't support his argument, he folds.

Magic is one of those old school guys who believes that he only number that matters is wins. He values things like leadership and tenacity, things that can't be measured.

Johnson probably just got tired of Simmons's crap. He was fine when he was just another one of the guys bringing their POV to the show, but he has big ego now and thinks he runs shite.

Espn's basketball coverage is near unwatchable. I'll put up with it when my Thunder are on or when it's a big matchup, but other than that, TNT is the way to go.

TNT is more entertaining but Shaq brings less than zero to the table as an analyst. Barkley is overrated as an analyst as well. I love their show and it's hilarious and great television but I'm not even sure Charles and Shaq watch games.

As for metrics and stats and logic vs old stereotypes and cliches...like whenever they had a big argument about the Rudy gay trade and magic just pulled out his "I have five rings you're just a fan you don't understand" bullshite and then Simmons was proven right and Magic got butthurt?

fricking This. Magic's just all around bad at talking and Wilbon just doesn't fit great with Simmons. We'll see how George Karl works.

I think Simmons, Rose, and Collins will be pretty strong, but putting Collins in the studio is wasting his talent. Just switch him with JVG.

Simmons, Rose, and JVG would be solid. Not TNT, but the best ESPN could do.

1000% right...their Grantland NBA previews are a great example of how good they are.

They need a great host...someone with Ernie Johnson potential. The only person in-house who makes sense at ESPN and seems to have the time to move into the role is Reece Davis (he can do NBA and CFB #2 studio duties). Clearly, SVP would also be a slam dunk as well but is too busy.

Simmons is great on the ESPN show. Magic is another worthless talking head along the lines of Dan Marino. All he does is occupy space and laugh a little too often and a little too loudly.

Need SVG. If we can't have a SVG/JVG pairing, we at least need SVG somewhere on TV.

They need to get rid of Wilbon and eliminate Simmons nack for pop culture references.
Some of you people should read the article first before commenting. Wilbon is gone and this is the main reason Magic has stepped down because they canned his boy. They said they would greatly reduce Wilbon's role this season, preety much sayin he is gone. Wilbon won't take a minimal role I'm sure.

And Simmons has become the main power guy because the show has been pretty much handed to him. It was his ideal to bring in Burke. But this another reason the Magic man quit becaue ESPN decided to go Simmons way. And Magic wasn't gonna play second to him, but Wilbon is the main reason he quit. Also, Doug Collins was hired.

Good point, even according to the article Simmons didn't actively do anything to get Magic kicked off. Eason made the decision that to compete with TNT they needed a more Simmons style show and gave him a lot of decision making power. This offended magic bc he didn't want to play second fiddle and Wilbon is his boy
