Yeah, the income is good right now. But if I can keep it up for another 4-5 years my plan is to downsize the stress, commute, workload and of course income. The kids won't be young forever and I am itching to put my career on cruise control. Half of the income would be fine with me.

Don't feel inadequate... until I read this thread. That was mostly a joke, I mean I don't make enough that I go buy a new car simply because I want it, but the bills are paid and I haven't worried about money in a long time, which is enough for me.

I travel all over, mostly out west though. Currently in Denver. I've worked in Bakersfield in the past. Where are you at now? I've thought about taking a f/t position again in the bay area. The pay there is ridiculous.

There is some truth to this. A business or job can become a monster you have to keep feeding. I was happier when I made less but had much more time. What time and dollar amount is different for everyone. I was making about 350-400k and worked about 28hours/week. I could buy or do whatever I wanted but still had time to actually do it. I'm certainly not overworked now, but I feel drained all the time. It's hard to find that perfect balance and even harder to maintain it once you do.
Value your free time and spend less than you make. That's the secret.

I do similar work overseas and my company covers all my taxes as a perk of working overseas. Lots of oil company do that for their employees. I have to pay US taxes but my company adjusts my pay to make sure at the end of the year all my taxes are covered so essentially i clear over $200k without having to send a check to the IRS at the end of the year.

I know plenty of docs, FP's and specialist, that make that much. It depends on what and how many procedures you do and your overhead. Of course in rural areas, our overhead is MUCH lower.
ETA-all own their own practices and are not employed physicians.

Yeah I lucked up. Unless you develop the entire Park yourself, a lot of time someone else owns the lot, so you owe lot rent. My trailer is down a regular street in WBR so I was able to get the lot and the trailer. An uncle of mine owns a number of trailers in a trailer park. Fixes up old ones and charges like $750/mo. $$$$$

I forgot O&G companies adjust for that.
