Solid bump

If you asked me going into the year if H-town would be top 4 in the West, I would have thought that was a very fair bet, and pretty much right down the middle on chances.

As of now, they are 1/2 game out of being the 5 seed, but are the 3

I think the OP will lose the bet. 2 days ago I heard Morey say the Rockets have the toughest schedule in the NBA for the rest of the season.

Well they only have 5 games left on the road vs teams over .500. Memphis has 9. Idk where he's getting his numbers from.

This thread. It's funny seeing the current state of the Pelicans' fans compared to beginning of season. It went from contenders to.tank and sell the farm.but keep AD.

The next 10 games or so are brutal.

After that the schedule gets pretty easy. But about half the remaining games are against really good teams... OKC, Miami, Indiana, Clippers, Blazers, Spurs, etc and some of those teams the Rockets play twice.

It's gonna get tight, but we'll see.

There's no way Houston has the toughest remaining schedule. Not even Close.

They have as few road games vs teams over .500 as any team in the West.

They only have 11 of 25 remaining games vs teams over .500, only the Clippers have fewer.

Check this stretch out:

@GSW L
@PHX W
@SAC
@LAC
DET
MIA
@ORL
IND
POR

@OKC
@CHI
@MIA

That is just brutal. I think we are a top 4 team no doubt, but I don't know if we finish up there. We're finally healthy and playing some of our best ball but it's going to be a dog fight in the West regardless.

The good thing is that after that brutal stretch of games, the schedule is pretty easy.

But will this stretch of 10 games put the Rockets behind Portland or the Clippers?

This stretch of 10 games may be the deciding factor in the Rockets' playoff positioning.

The game tonight is an important game, as strange as it sounds. The kings match up well against the Rockets, beating them twice already this year.

For the most part, Sacramento has checked out. Don't let them hang around. Bury them, like Houston did against LA. Get Howard and Harden some rest for the game tomorrow against the Clips.

Friend and I bet this before the season. I said they wouldn't be a top 4 seed. 20 bucks. He gets top 4 I get 6-8. 5 is a push

WCF threats: OKC, POR, SA, HOU
Close But No Cigar: LAC, MEM (Not sure if they make playoffs.)
Good Teams But West Stacked: GS, other potential surprise team.

OKC and LAC are the clear top two teams in the West. I hate discounting SA, but they have been bad against the top teams this year. I don't think POR can play good enough D come crunch time. GS and HOU have a punchers chance because they can play great D at times and they have stars that can carry teams on offense.

How are the Clippers 1 of 2 "clear" top 2 teams in the West? What have they done that warrants that distinction?

They have the 3rd best player in the league and one of the best #2 guys in the league. Jordan has become a good defender and beastly rebounder. Guys like Reddick and Crawford can score. Wings that can shoot. One of the best coaches in the league. They're a pretty complete team with the only real issues being backups at PF and C. That will matter less in the playoffs.

They aren't clearly one of the top 2. You can make an argument for them, sure but they aren't even a lock to win the Pacific.

They are #7 in my own rankings.

Now average them and they are #4.

There. Glad that's settled.

Every year everybody seems to do this.

How does that typically work out? Until Duncan is gone, the Spurs will contend for championships.

I'm back from ban land, and I felt like bumping this thread.

I'm feeling pretty confident, but the Rockets have failed me before...
