Or he fell asleep at the wheel because we don't pay LEO's jack shite so they have to work extra jobs (where he was coming from) to make ends meet. Who else here works a full time professional job and then has to work another job(s) to support his family? It's not right and I wouldn't be one bit surprised if the investigation turns up that he worked sixty hours or more last week.

Just like teachers, they know the pay before they take the job.

RIP. I met him a couple times cause he did security where I work sometimes. Seemed like a cool kid every time I talked to him.

Why is it you people only complain about speeding cops? Have you ever driven down the interstate? What about the regular citizens that speed? Lot more of them doing it. Hell everyday I'm passed by people hauling arse on I-10.

Because the cops write tickets for people speeding, then speed themselves.

Pretty simple really.

May have reached for something, hit a curb then tried to correct, but overcorrected. Very sad. We do not know when our last moment on earth will occur! It happens in a split second.

Dustin had worked the previous night, then worked 2 details the next day. He was on his way home from a 24 hour shift. They think he fell asleep and woke up on the shoulder of the southbound lane and distorted as he was probably tried to correct and the vehicle hit him.

A EBR deputy like to have killed my sis in law a few years ago while speeding through the light at Sherwood and Coursey while in pursuit of a non existent assailant. Cop broke his pelvis, totaled 2 cars, sent my sis in law to ER......they think they are above the law, flipping on lights to avoid traffic to go meet cop pals and chat in parks all day.

Sometimes people reap what they F'en sow.

Yep, wow. Cops should think about the safety of the public they supposedly serve. Your shock is warranted.

Wonder if he was playing on his computer in the Sheriff's unit or speeding like most other cops around Baton Rouge.

Or reading the OT. Someone said he posted here. I wonder if the OT has ever killed anyone.

Damn, you people are brutal.

Sorry for the deputy and his entire family.

Don't have kids you can't afford to support. There are no excuses for falling asleep at the wheel.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all who suffered loss and emotional scars due to this accident. Very sad indeed.

I do share some of the sentiments expressed however with the recklessness I have witnessed LEOs partake in. One incident in particular I witnessed was a Bham Officer, responding to a call several blocks away, jumped onto a downtown SIDEWALK...yes a SIDEWALK to get by a red light. This officer didn't bother to use common sense in the slightest. An old man was coming around the corner of the building the officer was riding by. This building had NO visibility at that point. Had this man taken literally one more step, he was a hood ornament. I don't know how he missed getting hit, but he did. I could not believe the recklessness involved to respond to a minor issue down the street (as I found out later).

To those in the know of policy, is this common practice to pull full 24 hour shifts by these officers?

There are some pieces of shite in this thread with some punk arse bitch comments.

Prayers sent to the deputy's friends and family. I hate to hear stuff like this.

Some of your responses are interesting. I guess it's a shame the deputy wasn't a operator or an engineer like so many of the OT. Maybe he actually loved his job.

The self righteousness of some people is pretty disgusting. I'm sure every time he got paid he knew exactly how much he made. It is a bad thing, he wanted to volunteer his free time to make extra money?

You my friend are a flaming idiot. You should direct your energy towards people who drink And drive. They cause much more injury and death than a LEO who "thinks he/she is above the law.
